Ugly: Not a fan of Yosemite's design
Just upgraded my Dad's Mac to Yosemite tonight which also made me update to 1Password version 5.0.
Holy shit are these ugly. Yosemite looks like that POS IOS 8.
What happened to the menu bar in 1Password? Also, WTF is up with the forced shelf view? What happened to having 3 options including the 3 pane view?
Jesus Christ, Steve Jobs has to be rolling over in grave with this shit.
Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?
Yes. Among other things, try going to 1P5 > View > Item List Layout and change it from Top to Left.
What happened to the menu bar in 1Password?
It has one: do you not see it on your father's installation?
There may be others on the forum who would be a little offended by your choice of language. Do please think of them if you post again.

I will take a look at the view menu again.
I haven't kept up with Mac stuff in a very long time. Used my Dad as the test case and the rest of us are still on Lion. Was Mavericks this ugly as well? Anyone have any hints for apps to de-uglify Yosemite?

I am not into altering the appearance of Yosemite, but I would bet Google would be your friend if you want to pursue that.

Hey Carl,
Long time! Nice to see you around.

Hi @Carl,
I personally agree, I find Yosemite to be less visually appealing than Mavericks was. I do like 1Password 5's Yosemite look more than 1Password 4 though.
There are quite a few resources out there to change the look of Yosemite, like changing the default system font, different icons, reducing the amount of translucency it does (which is the biggest thing for me).
We're still refining the 1Password 5 look, to try to make it fit in better and try to make it more visually pleasing.

What's up thightower!
Yes, been a long time. I think I am still running 3.9.x on my Mac, 4.x.x on the wife's Mac, 5.x on my Dad's Mac now, and Windows 1.0.9.342 on my work laptop so I've definitely been in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp and haven't kept up to date on 1Password or OS X.
Cannot say I have been impressed with Apple the last couple of years. Every version of IOS gets uglier and more goofy with off the wall crap. The latest IOS on the iPad is driving me crazy when app switching and reloading the content. Played with the app background settings but cannot get it work as before. Pretty much all of the latest Apple releases seem to be change for the sake of change and not improving the experience much.
Basically, I'm busy with a lot of other things and don't have a lot of time to devote to de-uglifying OS X because some Apple designer thinks this crap looks good.
Of course I am guessing that upgrading from Lion to Mavericks is now impossible due to the App Store policies Apple has in place.
I fear Apple is heading the same direction it did when Jobs departed the last time. :(

Hi @Carl,
Time will tell. I think we're in a transition period and things will get better over time.

I agree with Carl and his choice of words. It hurts to look at my screen. Transitioning forward into new things is one thing.. But they literally regressed with this one. Very frustrated that I cant change it back to Mavericks. UGHHHH.

I believe El Capitan will be visually very similar to Yosemite so while sticking with Mavericks is a choice that can be made, hopefully you find this new look grows on you. It was a bit of a shock when I first experienced it but give it time and it may grow on you.

@Carl, Something similar happened to me. I was stuck with Lion for a long time as my older MacBook Pro didn't meet the pre-requisite for upgrade to Mountain Lion.I was later given a newer Macbook Pro. However, by then, Mavericks had already been superceded by Yosemite and I couldn't go back as I had never downloaded Mavericks.
Anyway, Apple chose to patch only Yosemite for the Rootpipe security flaw so you may just want to stick with 10.10.3 and above.

@wkleem, I think Rootpipe is Yosemite only but your general point is valid. Lion is no longer eligible for security updates and it is possible that Mountain Lion will lose security updates when El Capitan is released. That isn't a given before anybody gets too worried, merely one possible extrapolation of what we've seen before. For anybody running Mountain Lion on their primary machine it might not be a bad idea to consider this as a possibility.

@littlebobbytables, If memory serves, Rootpipe goes all the way back to Lion. Apple didn't want to allocate resources to fix the problem and this marks the first time Apple has fixed an issue solely on a current Mac OS (like iOS).
Rootpipe has been discovered to be in Macs OS since 2011.

How software looks or how software functions? I'll take functions and stay current.

I apologise @wkleem, you're quite correct. A number of articles I skimmed were somewhat misleading.

Hi, It does seem to be an issue nowadays whereby the stories are missing details. Brevity is great but it has gone too far in my opinion.

In that case, I suppose it's a good thing that my own responses are rarely brief! ;)

That's also a good point - the longer an article, the more likely people are to skip it, or read only part of it. And of course, the shorter an article, the more likely it will be missing some important details. I think we tend to lean towards the "too much is better than not enough" side of things, but also try to keep a good balance. I often look over my own answers and think about how to rephrase certain parts to make them shorter and easier to read, but without sacrificing important information.

Been months and I still hate Yosemite but not as much as iOS 8 or whatever abomination the current version is on the iPhone/iPad. Just had to update iPhoto on Yosemite and they changed the whole UI to match their ugly bland POS theme. Of course they could give a rat's ass about usability and functionality. Someone at Apple burned the HIG and buried it 1000 feet deep. Man, I miss Aqua! Hell, I will take brushed metal at this point.
I mean who wants to have to re-learn every friggin app everytime there is a yearly OS X update.
Frankly, I switched to Mac in 2005 and after 10 years It has continued to go down hill with every new OS X and iOs release. It is change for the sake of change. Honestly, I would seriously consider going back to Windows and using Android for mobile.
Two main things keeping me on Apple products are the iCloud syncing between devices (although the iPad mail part works poorly now) and the fact that I hate Google. However, if things continue to get worse I may have to jump ship. I can have frustration for cheap. Not paying Apple a premium to have the same frustrations. :(
