Setting up on a new computer
Hi, I am currently using Dropbox to sync my data across multiple devices. I wish to know if I am setting up on a new computer, and assuming my Dropbox account password is managed by 1Password, how should I go about doing the setup? Because even if I install 1Password and Dropbox on the new computer, I can't access my Dropbox password because my 1Password data can't be fetched, as I'm not logged in to Dropbox. Please advise. Thanks.

Most of us have a few passwords we remember outside of 1Password. For me, Dropbox is one of them. Others are my main email account and Apple ID.

Hi @gnowenegue,
In addition to hawkmoth's advice, I wanted to mention that if you have one of your other devices with you when setting up the new computer, you can check your Dropbox password on the other device so you can set up Dropbox on the new computer.
I hope that helps, but let us know if you have more questions. :)

Setting up a new computer using 1Password & dropbox sync is a pain because:
Dropbox won't prioritize the downloading of my 1Password vault, leaving me idle until it deigns to come down.
I wish 1Password had the ability talk to dropbox.com directly.

Hi @allenhancock,
I suppose you could argue it's a bit of a fudge but you can (kind of) prioritise folders for download in Dropbox. Say you've got a new computer and as you say, you want to get your 1Password folder first. Using Dropbox's Selective Sync you could first say "I want just my 1Password folder right now" and Dropbox will only download that, ignoring everything else. With your Dropbox folder downloaded you could then essentially disable Selective Sync and have Dropbox resume downloading everything else. It would mean while Dropbox is doing this that updates would be queued but your current vault would be present.
I've seen a couple of requests asking for the use of the Dropbox API in 1Password for Mac but personally I can't see it happening (but I could easily be wrong too). By relying on the Dropbox client we don't have to worry about Dropbox and it's why 1Password 3 for Mac can still use Dropbox sync while 1Password 3 for iOS can't.

I tried the selective sync... did you know there's no "uncheck all"
So I unchecked 40 folders, and it was certainly better, but still over 1/2 hour before I could use 1Password.
I realize that this is mostly a Dropbox issue.. but since the 1Password team cares & is interested hearing what's going on, I thought I'd post.
Ideally they'll listen to you when you ask for a way to have your data prioritized.

Hi @allenhancock,
I have to confess, I've only interacted once or twice at this level with Dropbox for somebody having issues with a 40GB full account. I made good use of the Selective Sync to help tame the out of control account but I am bad for information like the lack of a uncheck all slipping away as soon as I'm finished. Dropbox is fantastic when it's running smoothly but if you have enough stuff stored in it it makes starting over a mammoth task.
Oddly enough you would think that your 1Password folder would have high priority as according to Dropbox
Dropbox prioritizes file uploads by size, starting with the smallest files. This way, you don't have to worry about your smaller files getting stuck behind larger ones in transfers.
Your .agilekeychain isn't a single file, it's broken up a lot more than that to minimise the amount of syncing required for a small change to a single item. One of my vaults is only a couple of MB with most of the .1password files being a couple of KB in size. Obviously attachments can be a game changer but still, you would expect your vault to be pretty high in the queue.
I shall pass on your thoughts though.

Much appreciate. I recognize this is a a Dropbox issue to solve... but no the prioritization doesn't help get the full agile keychain, perhaps because so much of what's in my dropbox is similarly small.
I had this thought the same thing last time I setup a new computer for myself..
Have a great weekend, and thanks for listening!
