Commercial alternative to solve the CloudKit problem
Hi there,
I only recently discovered that my Mac does not sync anymore with my iDevices after the latest upgrades. It is partially my fault because I normally use 1Password on my mobile devices and less frequently on the Mac unless I have to run a massive update of my database (like I had to do recently since I lost my wallet with all my credit cards in it)... so I haven't noticed the problem until recently.
After some research on the website (both Apple and AgileBits) I finally understood that the reason was that I purchased 1Password 4 from AgileBits website and not from the Apple AppStore.
Ok, I understand that there are some workarounds (DropBox and WiFi sync) but I purchased a product that was doing something and now it's not doing it anymore. I do not feel comfortable at synching via DropBox and the WiFi synch is kinda awkward since it requires to have all devices in the same place
I also understand that for Apple it is difficult to let us purchase "for free" the AppStore version to replace in kind the AgileBits webstore version. I also appreciate the fact that AgileBits is trying to find a solution in collaboration with Apple, the problem is that in the meantime the users (I should've paid more attention at the time of the communication of the upgrades) are left with a product that is significantly different - and here I actually mean a bit worse - than the original at the time of the purcase.
- So there is the question, suppose that I purchase the Apple AppStore version and provide you with the invoice: would you be able to get me a refund? I cannot remember if I purchased 1Password 4 with a discount from the website: I am prepared to pay for the difference, the only thing I don't want to do is to pay for the product twice to get back the iCloud Sync functionality.
Thanks!
Sam

They would issue you a refund with the Mac App Store receipt, but only if your purchase from the AgileBits site was made within the 30 day refund window. You don't say so specifically, but your comments suggest that this will not be applicable in your case.

Hi @scurti
Sadly you purchased early last year and so we won't be able to offer you a refund on your Agile Web Store (AWS) copy of 1Password.
All I can do I'm afraid is point you towards Dave Teare's announcement on this, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5. While I wasn't privy to the actual discussions, I have no doubt all possible scenarios were discussed as to their viability before deciding on this position.
While Wi-Fi Sync still does require devices to be on the same network, it has been improved as of 1Password 5.1 for Mac. It can now sync secondary vaults and is automated as long as 1Password is open on both the Mac and the iOS device. It might not make a difference from your perspective but I thought I would least mention these changes.
