WiFi-Sync does not work (OS X - iPhone)

Good morning,

after two hours of reading this forum, trying the "solutions", deleting old data on iOS, reinstalling, reboot Mac, reboot iPhone, reboot router - nothing worked.

Yes,

  • the OS X firewalls allows 1Password
  • the Master-passwords are the same
  • the versions are 5.1 (Mac) and 5.2 (iOS); OS X 10.10.2, iOS 8.1.3, iPhone 6+
  • both bought in the App-Store
  • the WiFi-Sync functioned well in the last month

No,

  • I do not want to use iCloud or Dropbox
  • Ad-hoc-network doesn´t work
  • I haven´t figured out how to sync via USB and iTunes (the way I used it in the stone age before establishing the innovative WiFi-sync some months ago; apparently I´m too limited to attain the cable sync via iTunes [to find out which file in which folder])

The result:
On the Mac: all fine
On the iPhone: no objects, no logins, no notices - shortly: no passwords on the iPhone

Sorry for the poor German-English; and the user name was born from despair.

Thanks in advance

I'm very sorry for all the trouble you're having. It won't help you to know that I'm running the same versions of everything as you are and wifi sync is working perfectly between my MacBook (on the one hand) and my iPhone and iPad (on the other). However, that does mean that your problem can be solved. :)

Just check one other thing: make sure that the name of your Mac (OS X System Preferences > Sharing) hasn't got something strange added to it (like "(2)" for example).

When you open 1P sync on the Mac and try to sync with your phone do you get any error message? What exactly happens? Do you see any error message on the phone when you try to sync with the Mac?

(Edit: I've just found a much better explanation than mine of the computer name problem here. See if it helps.)

    Stephen

    Thanks Stephen,

solved. My nickname has risen from the grave.

I saw the post from littlebobbytables during my journey through this forum beforehand; the names in the System Preferences > Sharing (for bonjour syncing) both of Mac and iPhone contained no strange charakters or doublets.

But nevertheless you were (almost) right:
The issue was solved anyway by changing the name of the Macbook in System Preferences > Sharing: Before it contained 27 characters (or glyphs, I don´t now in English the correct vocabulary item for letters als well as digits), after it only 10 characters.

Since then the WiFi-Sync is running smoothly, faster than ever - comparable to the speed of your answer.

    tl;dr:

The problem was the LENGHT of the computer name.

Thanks for your hints and greetings

    Hi @Syncmaster,

Thanks for letting us know the details on how you solved the problem! This is something I thought had been solved in a previous update, so I'll let our developers know in case that bug has also risen from the grave. ;)

Wifi Sync also stopped working for me - very frustrating! I almost waited on upgrading thinking this would happen! Now I wish I would have!

My Mac's name is 18 characters, with two spaces and a '.

I believe standard apple naming is firstname's MacModel
    for example Bob's Macbook Pro
    or
    Steve's Mac Mini

It worked perfectly prior to the last round of updates.

I cannot rename my PC as I have a bunch of audio plugins on this machine, and have no idea if the license is tied to the machine name.

    Hi @basementjack,

I'm sorry Wi-Fi sync has been problematic since the update! It sounds like the name of your Mac is not the problem, but you should also check to make sure your Mac hasn't automatically added a "(2)" (or another number) after it. If it has, you'll need to edit the name to remove the number.

If that's not the problem, can you let us know a few more details about your setup:

    • What is the exact version of 1Password on your Mac?
    • Are you using the web store version or Mac App Store version of 1Password on your Mac?
    • Before downloading the latest version, were you using a previous release of 1Password 5, or an older version (i.e. 1Password 4 or 1Password 3)?
    • What happens when you try to set up Wi-Fi sync between your Mac and iOS device(s)?
    • What iOS devices are you using, and what exact version of 1Password is installed on each one?
    • You mentioned a PC, are you referring to a Windows computer? Or your Mac?

By the way, your 1Password license is not tied to the name of your computer. (You may have been referring to the audio plugins, though.)

    Thanks!
