Anybody know how to get back specific categories such as Hunting Licenses, Social Security Cards or Passports? I no longer see these categories and related items.

    @jasondoiron

If I recall correctly they are not displayed in the sidebar unless you have a given type.

    Or

It may also be that they have been collapsed. Hover over the the categories section and you will see "show" appear simply click they category name. If neither if these are the issue can you give us more details on what you are experiencing.

    Hi @jasondoiron,

Did thightower's answer help? Hopefully you're all set, but please let us know if you're still unable to see those categories (and keep in mind that you need to have created at least one item in a category for it to be shown in the sidebar).

My 1Password for iOS display "Social Security Cards" as a category type, but my Mac version does not. Thoughts?

    Hi @jasondoiron,

Are you creating a new item in 1Password, and don't see Social Security Number as a choice? Or are you comparing the main Categories list in 1Password for iOS to the Categories listed in the left sidebar of 1Password for Mac? Have you created at least one Social Security Number item in your 1Password vault? If so, did you create them on iOS or on your Mac? Were you previously able to view those items on your Mac? Do the other item categories appear in 1Password on your Mac?

Please note that the Categories may not be listed in the same order on iOS as they are on your Mac. Is it possible the Social Security Number category is simply in a different position in the list? Have you tried using the Search field in 1Password to find your Social Security Number items, to confirm they are there?

Sorry for all the questions, but the answers should help us figure out exactly what you're seeing on your end of things, so we can help figure out what's going on. Thanks!

    Hi @Drew_AG:
I have a Social Security Number in my iOS app with dropbox sync. This card was originally created in the Mac app. I am using v.5.1 (510035). For some strange reason I am no longer able to search or view either the original social security card nor create a new one.

On the Mac app, I no longer see a category called "Social Security Cards" on the left pane (but I once did and have never deleted any of the social security cards). Additionally, when I click on "All Items", then click on "(+) button to create a new Social Security Card I find that "Social Security Card" is no longer an option.

    Thoughts?

    Hi @jasondoiron,

The category in 1Password should actually be called "Social Security Number" (not "Card"), but I'm guessing that's not the problem as I'm sure you'd notice the words "Social Security" in that category. I just thought I should mention it in case you're specifically looking for "Card".

I must admit I'm struggling to think of any reason why you would be missing any categories, especially in the list when creating a new item. You originally mentioned you were also missing Hunting Licenses (aka Outdoor Licenses) and Passports. Are those still missing?

In the main 1Password app on your Mac, please go to the menu option for File > New Item to see that list of available categories. That list should be divided into 2 sections: Categories above the line are those which have existing items in your vault, and categories below the line are those which don't have any items in your vault. Can you confirm that Social Security Number is not appearing in either section of that list?

I'm not sure why any items would go missing from your vault on your Mac, but I wonder if there is some sort of sync problem. In 1Password for Mac, go to the View menu and make sure Show Item Counts is enabled. Then check the number next to All Items in the left sidebar. Does that match the number of All Items shown in the main Categories list in 1Password on your iOS device? Also, how do you sync your 1Password data between Mac and iOS (Dropbox, iCloud, Wi-Fi sync)? Is the sync method still enabled/set up in the Sync preferences of the Mac and iOS versions?

Same issue here between new re-install on Mac Mini and existing install on MacBoook Pro Retina 13". The 'All Items' count is correct but the following categories are missing:

    -Memberships
-(Software Licenses) Was missing then I searched a license it this appeared. Didn't work with others. PS Getting 1P password when signed in should be easier. PITA.
    -Email Accounts
    -Bank Accounts
    -Servers
    -Wireless Routers
    -Social Security Numbers
    -Passports

I do have items for each.
    Sync via Dropbox.

    Hi @BoxCar,

I'm sorry you're also having a problem with some missing categories. Thank you very much for the screenshots, they're really helpful for us! :)

Since all of your items are there, I don't know why those categories would be missing. It's also very strange that you were able to get the Software Licenses category to appear, but the same trick didn't work for the other categories. What you can try is to restart 1Password mini, to see if that make any difference. From the main 1Password app, go to Help > Troubleshooting > Restart 1Password mini. You'll need to enter your master password again after doing that. Does that help at all?

Getting 1P password when signed in should be easier.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're referring to here. Can you please be more specific about what you had trouble doing?

    Thanks!

Hi, eventually after multiple restarts the other categories appeared. As to the quote above, let me elaborate. I had to do an erase an install on a Mac Mini. All of my passwords are stored in 1P/dropbox. There are several several hoops to jump through to get the 1P license since it isn't just a code. Download and install dropbox, but my dropbox password is saved in 1P. Searching for my 1P license forgetting about the arcane licensing, not finding the Software License category. Just an unpleasant experience. If I am signed into 1P why can't you detect my and recover my license?

    Hi @BoxCar,

I'm glad to hear that the other categories appeared for you ... although it's rather baffling that they took their sweet time in doing so! Please let us know if they do another disappearing act and we'll investigate further.

Download and install dropbox, but my dropbox password is saved in 1P.

For this reason, I've created a Diceware password for Dropbox. It makes it easy to remember (and type) for those cases where I do need to access Dropbox without the help of 1Password. You can learn more about Diceware in this blog post: Towards Better Master Passwords.

Do you have 1Password installed on any mobile devices? There's a really handy feature in 1Password 5 for iOS called 'Large Type'. When you tap on a password in the item's details, you'll have the options copy, reveal, and large-type. Tapping the 'Large Type' option will display the password in large type for you. This makes it easy if you need to see the password to type it in on another device.

Searching for my 1P license forgetting about the arcane licensing, not finding the Software License category. Just an unpleasant experience. If I am signed into 1P why can't you detect my and recover my license?

You're right, it would be wonderful if 1Password could detect your license automatically. We're currently investigating this issue and I'd be happy to add your thoughts to the issue in our internal tracker. I do apologize that this process has been frustrating for you.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

It happened again....I reinstalled 1P on another Mac and referenced my 1P file on Dropbox. All of my 1P content was available but there are no categories for "Email accounts", "Software", etc. I can still see my software and email but they have lost their references to the proper category. Please advise.

OK, I think I found the bug....
In order to see the categories correctly for drivers license, database, wireless routers, email accounts, bank accounts, passports, social security numbers and software licenses on a freshly installed copy of 1P and referencing an existing 1P data file on Dropbox you must first create one of each of these entities.
Ex. I had 5 social security cards in my data file but could not see a category called "Social Security Cards" until I created a new social security card. Once I created the card, the corresponding category appeared and all of the SS cards display correct. Same thing will all of the rest of the category types identified above.

    Hi @jasondoiron,

Thanks for following up and letting us know about that! If I understand your description, it sounds like this is actually a slightly different issue than the one you reported back in February, because back then, you said you weren't able to create a new item in one of the missing categories. But now, it sounds like you can create new items in the missing categories, and that causes those categories to appear in the sidebar (and shows all of the items you expect to see there). Is that correct? It might be related to the original issue, but I just wanted to be sure I understood what's happening this time.

I think I might have reproduced the issue, although in a slightly different way. If you don't mind, would you be able to try this quick test to see if the same thing happens to you:

    • In 1Password on a Mac, create a new vault (go to the menu for 1Password > New Vault...).
    • Enter any name for the vault, and choose the exact same master password as your existing, Primary vault.
    • After creating the new vault, go to 1Password > Preferences and choose the Sync tab.
    • Select the new vault on the left side, choose Dropbox from the "sync vault with" drop-down menu, then click the Choose button.
    • Select the same .agilekeychain in Dropbox that syncs with your Primary vault (then click Open).
    • Click Merge with Existing to start syncing.

In the new secondary vault, do you have the same problem as before, where some categories are missing from the sidebar, but are listed in All Items? The above steps are how I reproduced it, but I want to make sure that's the same thing you saw when setting up 1Password on the new Mac.

Also, it's been a while since you first reported the problem, so can you please confirm a few details:

    Thanks very much!

Thanks @jasondoiron! I appreciate it. That definitely appears to be a bug, so I've opened a bug report to let our developers know. Interestingly, I just noticed that at some point in the last couple hours, the problem seems to have resolved itself for me, and it's showing all categories in the secondary vault I created.

By the way, I forgot to mention it previously, but feel free to delete that secondary vault from 1Password. You'll need to be viewing that vault, and then you can go to the menu for 1Password > Delete [vault name] Vault. That won't delete anything from Dropbox or from your Primary vault, so you won't lose any data.

Thanks again for letting us know about the issue and helping us to reproduce it! If you need anything else, you know where to find us. ;)
