one license, two accounts(master passwords) but getting divorce

We have one license for our family and we each have separate master passwords. My master password has been changed. Is it secure to keep using the same license? If not, is there a way to easily transfer all my passwords to a new license?

Yes. The licence has nothing to do with decrypting your data. The only thing that do that is your master password.
The licence simply allows the 1Password application to work. The 1Password application is not actually requires to access your vault. Anyone can write a program to do so. However, any program that accesses your vault will still require your master password.

Obviously you need to exceptionally cautious about entering our master password into anything that doesn't come from Agilebits.

  • Hi @kaideliara,

Richard did a great job of explaining this.

Your data is stored outside of the 1Password application, the license is tied to how the application works and does not impact your data in any way. In fact, you can change your license for the application easily and it won't change anything else. If this is what you want to do, we can help you with this, please email us your license details to support+licenses@agilebits.com and request a new license with the new details you want and we'll do that for you.

As he also mentioned, our 1Password data formats are open to anyone to study and use, so even if we somehow and not likely go out of business, other companies can work with the formats if they want.
