Need to change password display key
Hi!
Could you please do something to let users deactivate/change the current option ⌥ (alt) key to display plain text password in 1Password App?
Mac users need this key all the time to hide applications: the result with 1Password is to "lock" plain text password displaying when it is brought back to front, when it was hidden with ⌥ key.
It is very anoying.
Thanks in advance !

Hi @mediapart,
I'm sorry you're having some trouble with concealing/revealing passwords and the Option keyboard shortcut!
I haven't been able to reproduce the problem you described, and I'm wondering if you have your keyboard set up differently on your Mac. Pressing the ⌥ key (option/alt) should temporarily reveal any password fields, and they should be concealed again once you release that key. If all you do is press and release the the ⌥ key in 1Password, are the passwords revealed and concealed as expected?
The default keyboard shortcut to hide an app on Mac OS is ⌘H (Command+H) which doesn't use the ⌥ key at all. To hide all other apps, the keyboard shortcut is ⌥⌘H (Option+Command+H), so the Option key is used there, but when I try that from 1Password, the passwords are only concealed as long as I'm holding down the keys for the shortcut, and are revealed again as soon as I let go. Have you modified any default Mac OS keyboard shortcuts or changed the behavior of the modifier keys?
Now, there's a known issue where taking certain actions while the ⌥ key is held down will result in the password field still being revealed after letting go of that key - for example, if you hold ⌥ and click on one of the menus in 1Password, the password stays revealed after releasing the ⌥ key. Does that seem similar to the problem you're seeing? If so, a key press, moving the cursor over the revealed field, or other actions should cause the field to be concealed again. Our developers are aware of that issue, and if that seems to be the problem you're experiencing, I apologize for the inconvenience!
If that doesn't seem to be the same as the issue you described, please let us know. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the answer.
This is it: on Mac and for years, if you hold ⌥ and click anywhere else, any application would hide.
This happens with 1Password too, but when you bring back to front 1Password, it's just like if ⌥ was still held down. Hope it can be corrected in a further release.
What I need to do for example: from terminal, I need to switch to 1Password to get an account password ; on 1Password, I copy the password, don't need to show it, I hold ⌥ and click on terminal window and paste the password : from there, the password have been displayed (but I don't want to) and when I need to go back to 1Password, it is still showed up.
So it could be very useful to get a Pref option to turn off this key and/or change it as the user want. :)Thank you.

Better than words, just like here: http://sendvid.com/24wcp2b4
See 1Password when it's back to front? Mouse over does hide back the password… but else it is displayed.0 -
Hi @mediapart,
Thank you for clarifying that, and for the video to demonstrate the issue! Sorry for misunderstanding how you were using the ⌥ key to hide apps. I see what you mean now, and that's definitely part of the known issue I described. Once the issue is solved, the password would automatically be concealed again, so you wouldn't need to worry about it getting stuck being revealed. Therefore an option to disable or change that feature in 1Password shouldn't be necessary - or would you still want to change that once the bug is fixed?

Thanks @Drew_AG.
The problem is when you do not want or need the password to be disclosed on the screen, using this ⌥ key will —even for a very short time— show up the password. It could be very useful to let people change the key used in 1Password to voluntarily reveal the password…0 -
Hi @mediapart,
Thanks! I can't make any promises of course, but I can certainly let our developers know about your request.
If you need anything else, just let us know - we're always glad to help!

Hi ! Any update on this issue please ? It is still a daily annoying behaviour… Thanks.

Hi @mediapart,
I'm sorry this is still an annoyance for you! Unfortunately I don't have any updates at this time. As far as the issue where password fields stay visible in the 1Password app after releasing the ⌥ key, our developers haven't forgotten about it, but have been working on more critical issues and further development of 1Password across multiple platforms. I'll certainly let them know you asked about the status of this. Hopefully we'll be able to fix that in a future update!
Now, as far as your request to be able to change the key to reveal password fields, I honestly can't say for sure if/when that will ever happen. I completely understand why that would be helpful for you, however we do receive many different feature requests from our customers and unfortunately we just can't add them all. When a new feature or setting is added, the decision to do so is based largely on which ones are requested the most (although there are certainly other factors as well). That's not to say we'll never add the ability to change which key reveals passwords, but I wanted to be sure I didn't give you any false expectations about that.
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now! Hopefully we can something about that in a future version. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know!

OK. Thank you for your time and explanations @Drew_AG ;
I hope the team could see that problem as a security matter, even with low priority,
since sometimes people are looking at the screen for some purposes and
main user still don't want to disclose clue about passwords or anything when showing screen :)
