"Cannot access this Internet Explorer document"

I use 1Password on both Macintosh and Windows computers. I saved my Amazon login on a Mac, and I have confirmed that the login works correctly on the Mac. The Mac and Windows databases are synced through Google Drive.

When I attempt to use the login on a Windows system, the login page is displayed but I get the message "Cannot access this Internet Explorer document. Restarting Internet Explorer might fix the problem". I have tried restarting IE and I have rebooted the system but I continue to receive the same response.

Using the ctrl-\ method to input the account data also fails. 1Password doesn't seem to have captured the new/existing customer radio button state and Amazon always thinks I'm a new customer and so becomes confused when a password is auto-entered.

Working on the Windows system, I deleted the Amazon login and logged into Amazon manually. Autosave is set. For some reason 1Password didn't autosave the login or offer to save the login.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Cannot access this Internet Explorer document. Restarting Internet Explorer might fix the problem

@Pitaq I'm sorry you are having this problem.

First, I'm going to ask you to manually save a new Login for the page having this problem:

    1. Start IE
    2. Navigate to the login page
    3. Enter your username and password but do NOT submit the login page
    4. Click on the 1Password button
    5. Unlock
    6. Click on: Settings > Save new Login

Now please close IE and then follow these steps:

    1. Start IE
    2. Navigate to the login page
    3. Click on the 1Password button
    4. Unlock
    5. Click on the new Login item that you saved (it should appear at the top of the 1Password menu)

If this procedure didn't solve the problem for you, then I'm going to ask you to repair IE. Instructions are here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737/

If none of this worked, then you might need to reinstall IE, making sure you have the latest version. Instructions are here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/

Thanks for the prompt and helpful answer. I fnded up reinstalling IE 11. This was a seriously non-trivial exercise due to IE 11 installer errors, but all was done in a couple of hours with some help from Google search. This has fixed one of the issues I was seeing - the inability of IE to accept data from 1Password.

Incidentally, reinstalling IE 11 leaves all non-Microsoft IE add-ons disabled, including both the 1Password extensions - it's important to remember to enable them again in the IE Add-on Manager.

The other issue I mentioned isn't addressed. It does appear that the 1Password login generated on a Mac doesn't work on a Windows system because it is missing the setting of the radio button on the Amazon login page. An Amazon login generated on a Windows system does include the radio button setting.

Again, many thanks for your help.

@Pitaq: Wow! Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear you were able to coax IE into working by reinstalling it. :+1:

Excellent point! And this may help others with a similar issue who have to reinstall IE. Also, resetting it will have the same effect (Internet Options > Advanced > Reset).

Regarding the specific Amazon form issue, I wasn't actually able to find a login page with the checkbox you described. This surprised me, because I am a crazed Amazon customer myself and am sure I remember seeing this so many times... And here, I found it:

    https://www.amazon.com/ap/signin?encoding=UTF8&openid.assoc_handle=usflex&openid.claimed_id=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select&openid.identity=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0%2Fidentifier_select&openid.mode=checkid_setup&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.ns.pape=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fextensions%2Fpape%2F1.0&openid.pape.max_auth_age=0&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2F%3Fref%3Dnav_custrec_signin

Yuck. It turns out I was getting a completely different login form for AmazonSmile, so you might be able to use this one as well:

    https://smile.amazon.com/

But oddly enough, the form is defaulting to "Yes, I have a password:" so that 1Password fills it just fine. I tried this on Chrome for OS X, as well as Chrome, IE, and Firefox on Windows. Is it still just IE where you are having this issue? Please try another browser to see if you have different results.

So here's I found that saving a new Amazon login in 1Password on each platform gives us the following:

Please note that I simply removed the email and password fields from each (for obvious reasons). But here we can see two small differences between the two. Additionally, I see why you may have been led to believe that the login saved using 1Password for Mac wasn't working because it wasn't saving some information:

So, it's saving the one we want (the active radio button), whereas the Windows version also saves the null radio button. 1Password for Mac simply doesn't display all saved information, even though you can see it in the Windows screenshot of the same login above.

So, while I think it's a red herring in regard to your specific login problem, I want to thank you for pointing out this discrepancy in regard to the details that actually are saved on each platform. In this case it doesn't seem to make a difference, but I am going to bring this up with the development team to see if there is anything that needs to be addressed here. It may be intentional that these work a bit differently. Cheers! :)

After some additional testing, I've found that Amazon logins saved in Chrome with 1Password for Windows fill correctly on both Mac and Windows, but the logins I saved in the Mac version fill correctly on Windows but incorrectly on the Mac as you described.

This doesn't correlate to what I understood to be your situation, so perhaps I _mis_understood where the login you were having trouble with was being saved and then filled. Please clarify if you can. I will be reporting this filling issue regarding the Mac side in the mean time. Thanks! :)
