5 does not work unless you are on Yosemite. If you are on Yosemite, and 5 does not open, best advice is to trash it, (DO NOT use an app cleaner) empty trash, restart and redownload.

For anyone else who may have this issue, I had a similar problem today. 1Password 5 simply wouldn't open - no error message, no response at all when I typed my master password. I upgraded to 10.10.3 last Saturday and 1Pw 5 worked fine through last night.

I normally run in a non-admin account. I switched to an account with admin privileges and 1Pw opened normally. Long story short, I did these things:
    - checked that 1Pw was up to date. yes, it was.
    - turned off 1Pw mini, quit 1Pw, trashed it. Downloaded a new copy from agilebits, reinstalled. No difference - still wouldn't open in my normal user non-admin account, ok in admin user.
    - booted from Recovery partition, repaired permissions, repaired drive. No difference.
    - downloaded OS X 10.10.3 combo updater, applied it. No difference.

Finally, when I was wondering what to do next, 1Pw tossed a sync error box and asked if I wanted to ignore it or fix it. I clicked fix. This was in my normal, non-admin account.

1Pw opened up without my typing in my master password. It opened its preferences to Sync. I closed Prefs, quit 1Pw. I then relaunched it and entered my master pass. 1Pw opened up normally, and still does.

I have no idea why the problem occurred - no changes to my MBPr that I know of - and I was really surprised to see 1Pw open up without my master pass input. I also have no idea whether anything I did helped to fix it. But you might try what I did on the chance that it might help.

@MC, I'm sorry you're having trouble opening 1Password 5! Did danco's advice help? If you're still having trouble, please let us know the version of Mac OS X you're using, and exactly what happens when you try to open 1Password 5. Thanks!

@diamondguy, I'm happy to hear it's working for you now, thank you very much for the details! That's a very strange problem, and I'm not sure why it happened, although it sounds like it was possibly related to a sync issue. Has the sync been working since then?

    To address some concerns:

1Pw opened up without my typing in my master password. It opened its preferences to Sync.

    And:

I was really surprised to see 1Pw open up without my master pass input.

Please note there's a big difference between opening the 1Password app and unlocking the 1Password app. You should always be able to open 1Password by simply double-clicking the app icon. But you won't be able to access your data in 1Password unless you unlock it with your master password. The Preferences window can be opened when the 1Password app is open, even if it's locked. However, many of the options cannot be changed until you unlock 1Password with your master password. For example, the Sync preferences you saw should have been grayed out with a small message saying "Please unlock 1Password to change sync preferences".

When you get an error about the sync and click the 'fix' button, that opens 1Password and immediately opens the Sync preferences window. Depending on the position of the main window and the Preferences window, you probably couldn't see the field to enter your master password because it was "behind" the Preferences. So your 1Password vault should still have been locked when this happened, and sounds like it was behaving normally at that point. Did you need to correct your sync settings at all?

@Hasse895seglare, I'm not sure if I understand the problem you described, can you please elaborate on exactly what's happening (or not happening) with 1Password on your Mac? Are you having trouble opening the main 1Password app, or are you unable to unlock it with your master password? If you get any error messages, what do they say? You said you're "seeing the stuff through iCloud" but I'm afraid I don't know what that means, can you please be more specific? The more details you can give us, the better. I'm sure we'll be able to get you back up and running!

Here some data to help you help me:
    My setup is -

    • iPhone6 with iOS 8.3, iCloud, and 1Password v. 5.4 . Here I have my vault with my password collections etc reachable using a master password or my fingertip.
    • A new iMac with OS X Yosemite v. 10.10.3 and I just bought and downloaded 1Password v . 5.3

The problem when I started on my iMac saying that I have already a vault thru iCloud. The keywhole was blue and said that it found my data in iCloud and asked me to open using my master password. The keyhole turned red and did not open and gave me a tip word which I have no clue for.

Also, on my iPhone were I opened my vault using my finger or the master keyword I try to open the sync feature which found data in iCloud. When I said yes to that it asked for my master keyword and again refused giving the same tip as on my iMac.

So I am stuck and do not understand what is happening.

Hope you can help me out.

    Hi @Hasse895seglare ,

Thanks for getting back to us with those details! So, it sounds to me that right now, you do not have sync set up on any of your devices, but 1Password on your Mac is finding some old data in iCloud. Is that correct?

If your database is complete on your iPhone right now, we can remove the data in iCloud and then set up sync fresh.

We have instructions on How to remove all 1Password data from iCloud that should walk you through the process.

Once the data in iCloud is removed, you can set up iCloud sync on your iOS device, and then when you open 1Password for Mac it should detect the correct data.

If I'm misunderstanding your situation, please let me know. :)

    Hi @Hasse895seglare,

I'm sorry that it didn't go as smoothly as it should but it's good to hear that it did work out.

So just to clarify, did you follow the steps for erasing iCloud data from your Mac or your iOS device? The page you were directed to held both but the Mac would have been visible by default if you view the page from a Mac.

After trying to remove the iCloud data but not receiving the confirmation did you try to set up iCloud Sync again and how did that go?

I believe you're in email contact with us so if you answer please don't feel compelled to answer in both locations
