So, I wanted to buy the Mac App Store version of 1Password but I ended with the version from your website, which it is still a great product don't get me wrong. However, there is one huge problem...I need to be able to sync all my devices with iCloud, and you cannot do that with the downloaded version from your website. I am wondering if there is ANYWAY that you could possibly help me get the Mac App Store version?? I love your products and use them religiously. I even do some beta testing for you by getting the betas of 1Password. I really hope we can get this resolved. I really need everything synced to iCloud. Please, help me! Thank you so much!

    If you bought the the AgileBits store version of 1P within the past 30 days AgileBits will give you a refund so that you can buy the Mac App Store version. If that applies send an email to support+licenses @ agilebits.com with the following information:

    1. your full name;
    2. your full address when you purchased 1P;
    3. the approximate date you bought 1P;
    4. the email address you used when you purchased 1P;
    5. a request for a refund to enable you to buy the Mac App Store version;
    6. a link to this thread.

    You will receive an automatic response with a ticket number. Post that number in this thread, which will help AgileBits connect the two and speed the response.

    Well, I actually forgot to mention this (because I actually forgot about it myself) but AgileBits gave me the Mac version of 1Password for free because during the transitions from iOS 7 to iOS 8 (I believe) some bug caused me to lose EVERYTHING in my vault. So the very nice rep I talked to offered me the Mac version for free, since at the time I obviously only had the iOS versions. This is honestly a real big problem for me. I really need everything synced to iCloud. My three iOS devices are set to sync to iCloud. I really hope somehow they will help me get the MAS Version. I do not have $50.00 to just drop on the MAS for a product I already own. They really need to make both versions exactly the same, that way problems like this are avoided. Anyway, anytime I have dealt with AgileBits customer service they have been amazing, so I am hopeful they will resolve this! :) Thanks again!

    Unfortunately AgileBits cannot make both versions the same. Some of us prefer our purchases outside the Apple walled garden. Some prefer them inside the garden. I personally like my purchases with a mixture of about 1/3 Mac App Store and 2/3 direct from developer.

    To play by Apples rules only the Mac App Store apps can offer iCloud sync. So iCloud sync is not allowed by the website version as it is outside the Mac App Store. It cant even be offered in the website version.

    It is Apples rules, and unfortunately to provide the product to the users they have to play by Apples rules.

    Hi @SRL23,

    This one is outside of our control - sorry :(

    As @thightower has covered, the iCloud Sync restriction isn't us, it's Apple. Apple introduced iCloud Drive, the successor to iCloud at the same time they released iOS 8. They limited iCloud Drive access to iOS 8 and Yosemite (released a little later) but they surprised us by also restricting access to the iCloud related frameworks to Apple purchases only. iOS wasn't affected as you can only obtain iOS apps via Apple but it meant changes to 1Password for Mac. We were caught out and it meant for the first time that there is a real and distinct difference between the Agile Web Store (AWS) and Mac App Store (MAS) version. We didn't want this but the only way to return parity would be to either not sell via our store or remove iCloud Sync altogether - neither being an acceptable solution.

    It doesn't stop there. There are limited support features for developers selling their software in MAS. We can't migrate users from AWS to MAS and we can't offer a discount as neither feature exists. That free licence you received? that's because we have total control over our own store and can do as we please. With MAS it's Apple's garden and we have to play by their rules.

    The best way forward would be to consider Dropbox which is platform and version agnostic. It works on all the platforms 1Password exists on and works over all the actively used versions of 1Password too. I realise you want iCloud support but this way you can use the versions you already have with no cost. If you need help moving to Dropbox let us know or if you have any follow up questions please do ask.

  • @Stephen_C I just did the same thing; I purchased today 1Password 5 for Mac and just now realized I can't use iCloud Drive with it because I didn't purchase from the Apple App Store.

    I answered your questions and emailed them to agilesupport. My support ID is [#HZN-37874-955].

    Would appreciate any help you can provide as I really want to use iCloud Drive sync for all my password syncing.

    Wishing you the best and THANK YOU!

    @jeffmccord I am merely a volunteer on the forums and am not employed by AgileBits. You have done all you should, for the time being. Please await a response from AgileBits (bearing in mind you may need to be a little patient as it is the weekend, of course :) ).
