Trial Period - I like it but...

I'm taking the trial period for 1Password. I like how it works with websites - fairly straight forward, but the one thing that I'm looking for the most and where I get hung up the most in regards to passwords, is when you are doing something and you get a popup password request because you are the admin, a popup because you are downloading a new app from the app store and it needs you to enter the apple id, a popup because you've opened an app that doesn't require a browser, your windows password, etc. It's those passwords that give me the most trouble and the ones that I probably reset more than any other over and over again. And it's because I just don't see them that often. Granted, I'm still playing around with this but how can I use 1Passord for those situations that aren't connected to a browser, but instead for an app, admin, apple id, One Drive, Drop Box, etc.? Heck, I've even had problems with the first password I have to enter when I turn on my computer - my user password. I'll just be fried mentally with password resets and my brain is just scrambled and the next thing i know I can't even remember basic passwords anymore.

1Password so far can only deal with filling and submitting logins on web sites. So far, it cannot automatically do those other things you seek. For those, you'll need to use copy and paste. 1Password makes that reasonably painless to do.

The iOS version can fill in credentials to some native applications, but only if their developer adds specific code to the application to allow 1Password to communicate with it. The list of such applications is growing, but for me, there are only a few applications I use regularly that have added the required code.

Thanks. I think I may just need to stick with my little binder with all the stuff handwritten. I'm reading some of these other posts and this may just be something that gets me even more confused, especially if there is a problem, then I've just wasted a lot of money.

I just noticed it even has my whole email on here... great. I don't even know how to just have my first name...

I've asked that someone from the AgileBits team fix your username so that it isn't your email address.

    Hi @tshadley99 ,

I've edited your username to ensure that your whole email address is not included.

I'm sorry to hear though that you are feeling like 1Password might not be for you. You're right, 1Password is awesome at filling your passwords into browsers, but at this time we can't fill in anything that isn't a browser (as Hawkmoth mentioned.)

We do have a way to make it simpler for you to access and fill those passwords though! Have you noticed the 1Password mini icon in your menu bar? If you use ⌘⌥\ ( Command-Option- \ ) at any time, you'll open the handy little 1Password menu. From there, you can simply start typing the name of your AppleiD, for example, and, once it's highlighted, use the arrow key to view the item's details. Your password will automatically be highlighted, just hit 'Enter' to copy it to your clipboard for easy filling.

We've built 1Password to help people just like you (and me!) who's brains are tired of trying to remember unique and secure passwords for all of those sites and apps. We work hard to make 1Password as user-friendly as possible, and our team is more than happy to help walk you through anything that you are finding confusing or unclear.

If I can help you any further, please let me know! In any case, we really appreciate you giving 1Password a try. :)

@tshadley99 - It really is worth the effort to use a password manager, rather than a binder full of written notes. My guess, if you are like me, you won't be nearly as likely to choose complex and random passwords if you have to type them in each time you use them. And I suspect too, you'll be more tempted to use the same password for more than one site or application. There is a bit of a learning curve here, but for security sake, it's worth taking the time to climb the curve.

(That's my opinion, based on my own habits in the past. Your experience may be different.)
