1Password Extension for Safari under Yosemite not persistently installed

I have tried to install the 1Password extension for Safari on my iMac running Yosemite several times now.
Each time after the accounts under which it is installed logs out and back in, the Extension is not available anymore.
I have repeated this many times to no avail.

Some search online referred to a possible issue in the KeyChain, but I can't find anything in my KeyChain database referring to this extension.

Please help as this is really reducing the benefits of using 1Password.

Thanks in advance to the forum.

@Redsmith8888: Thanks for getting in touch! I'm sorry for the trouble.

I hope you don't mind, but I've moved this discussion to the Mac category of the forums, since it's a software issue and not a problem with browser filling.

Since you mentioned 'accounts' plural, do you have a user account where the 1Password extension is staying installed in Safari? 1Password won't delete itself, and to my knowledge Safari won't delete installed extensions either unless you tell it to. Do you have 'security' or 'cleaner' software installed on your Mac that might be mistakenly removing the 1Password extension? The 1Password extension doesn't store anything in the OS X Keychain. As browser extension, it doesn't even have access.

If you stay logged in, does the 1Password extension stay installed? If you're installing it and then later it's gone, something must be removing it. Please tell me which 1Password and extension versions you have. We will get to the bottom of this! :)

You could also see if one of the suggestions in this AgileBits post helps.

    Hi @Redsmith8888,

Let us know if Stephen_C's post helps at all. I've seen the extensions in both Firefox and Safari sometimes just get snarled up and wiping them away and starting over (just for the extensions) often resolves the issue.

@brenty: So far I have only tried this on 1 account. I am wondering if there isn't a permission issue somewhere.
Yes as long as I stay logged in, the extension is there.
    1Password Version 5.3 (530029) - Mac App Store
1Password-4.3.1.safariextz (install triggered from 1Password itself)

@Stephen_C: I have tried to uninstall / reboot / reinstall / logout / login. Upon last login the extension is missing again.
I haven't try to remove the plist...

@littlebobbytables: So far no luck through the standard ways

Thanks you all for your prompt answer, hope we can resolve this soon :-)

I am wondering if there isn't a permission issue somewhere.

@Redsmith8888: Definitely a possibility. At the very least, using Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions is worth trying, as there is no downside. Be sure to let us know if that or deleting Safari's extension preferences helps.

In either case, I've seen similar issues when the disk is going bad. There isn't a good reason for Safari to fail to save it's settings between sessions. Please let us know how it turns out! :)

Same here on Mavericks with 4.3.1 extension... ugh.

Tried deleting these files per another post, but it did not work:
    1. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    2. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist

Also repaired permissions, which didn't work.

    Any ideas?

Opening Keychain Access, searching for "Safari Extensions List", and deleting that application password worked.

@ojak: Ahaaa! Thanks for the update. That's certainly a needle in a haystack!

I'm glad you were able to get that extension issue sorted out by repairing the OS X Keychain. I had some trouble with that myself recently (unrelated to 1Password though). You should be all set, but be sure to reach out if you need anything else. We're always here to help! :)

I have the same problem with getting the 1Password Extension to persist on Safari on a new iMac running OS X 10.10.4. If I quit Safari and relaunch it the 1Password Extension is no longer loaded. Same thing applies to a restart of the computer. However on another iMac running OS X 1 0.10.2 there is no problem with the iPassword Extension persisting on Safari upon relaunch or restart of computer. Both computers are running the same version of 1Password (v5.3.2) and 1Password Extension (v4.4.1). It seems this problem might be due to an incompatibility issue with OS X 10.10.4. As a side note the new iMac came with OS X 10.10.4 so not sure whether this would be a problem with OS X 10.10.3. I have tried deleting the Safari Extensions List from Keychain but that did not resolve the issue. Would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

    Hi @trippj,

I can understand why you're wondering about 10.10.4 but we have so many users running this version of Yosemite that if there was a general issue it would be affecting a lot of people. I myself am running 10.10.4 and Safari is my preferred browser of choice. Everything is running smoothly here.

In the link Stephen_C posted, it does suggest removing both preference files and the Safari Extensions List all at the same time, partially removing the files could easily be insufficient.

Given the success we've had in completely wiping away all of the extension related data I do still believe it's merely a corruption issue. Could you try everything suggested in that link for me please and see if it makes a difference. Obviously if it doesn't we'll continue the troubleshooting process.

Implemented the steps in Stephen_C post and all is now well on Safari. Successfully quit and relaunched Safari as well as restarting the iMac. The 1Password Extension now persists. Thanks for your help.
