Firefox extension cannot find 1Password app [Moved to email]

Hi,
1PW ver 5.3.1, System Yosemite ver. 10.10.3 Firefox ver 38.0The situation where 1Password "doesn't play nice" with Firefox got worse upon upgrading from
System Mountain Lion to System Yosemite.Under System Mountain Lion, upon the first use of the day of Firefox, and when clicking on the 1passord "I" within
Firefox, 1Password would cause Firefox to open either a new web page or a new tab, demanding
that I locate 1Password. This was remedied by having 1Passord application already open before
using Firefox.Under System Yosemite, for each first use of Firefox, 1Password opens a new web page demanding
I locate the 1Password application. If 1Password application happens to be already open, that's not
good enough. 1Password still causes Firefox to open a new web page requiring I locate the
1Password application. The only way I can remedy this is to copy paste the login then the pw
from the 1PW application into the web page that needs it, and to keep Firefox open. Finally, after
all this, 1PW plays nice with Firefox for a while. Why on earth does 1Password cause Firefox to open a new webpage? this is just plain crazy.
Will there be a bug-fix upgrade to fix this festering misbehavior? This posting is tough-love. I wouldn't be asking all this if I didn't love using
1Password.Thanks.

Hi @Mongoose,
I'm sorry you're having trouble with 1Password and Firefox! Since the problem you're describing sounds a bit different than the previous discussion, I've moved your message to this new thread.
If the 1Password extension in Firefox is unable to find/communicate with the 1Password app, please check these settings:
- Open the main 1Password app and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences.
- Click the General tab.
- Make sure the option for Always keep 1Password Mini running is enabled.
Was that option disabled? If so, that should explain the problem. If that option was already enabled, something else must be interfering with the communication between 1Password and the extension. Sometimes other extensions in the browser can conflict with the 1Password extension. If you have other extensions installed in Firefox, try disabling all but the 1Password extension, and restart Firefox to see if that helps. If so, you can re-enable the other extensions one at a time to see which one causes a problem for 1Password.
Aside from the problem with Firefox, I'm very glad to hear you love 1Password! Please let us know how it all goes. I'm sure we'll be able to get things working correctly again, so if you're still having trouble with that, please let us know and we'll continue from there. Thanks!

Hi, Throughout the experience, "Always keep 1Password Mini Running" has always been enabled.
In order to test Firefox, as you suggested, I disabled every single extension/add on except, of course 1Password,
and the problem recurred after restarting Firefox, and after upgrading Firefox to version 38.0.5.Well, it's an annoyance i've been living with for over a year, from System Mountain Lion thru System Yosemite.
If i forget to
Have the 1Password application running before launching Firefox
AND
if i forget to manually insert the login and password into the first web page of the dayThen 1Password launches a new tab/webpage requiring me to download and install, etc. 1Password.
I don't know what to do, so I just live with the annoyance.

Hi @Mongoose,
I don't think this will resolve the issue but it won't do any harm to do this before my next request. So could you check out this post please and follow the steps. It will at least eliminate this as a possible influence.
If that yields no improvement I think it might be worth requesting a diagnostic report
I would like you to create the following Diagnostic Report please.
Then attach everything in an email to us at support+ forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
Once you've sent the Report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'll need to send the diagnostic report to you.
I downloaded and ran the diagnostic report program,
it opened Apple Mail, and there is no attachment.
In order to locate the resulting diagnostic report file,
i need to know the exact name so I can search for it;
'cause i cannot tell where your program saved the file to.
Thanks.0 -
Hi @Mongoose,
After you've clicked the Create Report... button and the diagnostic tool has collated everything the button should change to Create New Mail Message.... It does assume a default email client has been set up on the system and unfortunately it can't work if you only use webmail. It doesn't matter though as if you click on the image (See below with it highlighted) then it will open a Finder window in the correct place for you. You'll want to attach the zip file rather than the folder.
Does this mean resetting the
launchd
database entry for 1Password mini had no effect?0 -
Report sent, I should have placed the diagnostic application in the applications folder before running it; it wont work outside apps folder. Thanks much

The procedure at Launch Services had no effect on the problem.

Additional comment. I'm not a Safari user.
I installed the 1Password extension or add on into Safari according to instructions
and rebooted.I relaunched Safari and went to a web page that requires login and password.
Upon clicking the "I" Icon of 1Password, a new web page appeared with this
alert dialog box:"Looking for the 1Password app
The 1Password app must be installed for
the extension to work properly."Well, the 1password app has been installed for years, so,
I launched the 1 Password application, entered the master password
and then I went back to Safari and tried again,
and then the 1Password mini-app worked as it should, within Safari.0 -
Hi @Mongoose,
We received your Diagnostics Report, thanks for sending it! Someone from the support team will get back to you as soon as possible with more information. We'll keep the conversation going directly via email to avoid complicating things between here and there.
