1Password extension leaping to foreground in Firefox for Yosemite
I'm using Firefox, where 1Password Mini keeps leaping into the foreground and capturing the keystrokes from whatever I am typing into its login window. If I do log in again, it comes back shortly afterwards doing the same thing again. I have repeatedly installed the latest version of the extension via your site, and have just checked that I have the latest versions of Yosemite, Firefox and the 1Password app. I have reinstalled the 1Password extension about 5 times, and restarted Firefox and the Mac numerous times.

Hi @Squrk50,
That is unusual. Can I ask you a couple of questions please.
- In 1Password's preferences there is a General tab. In there you can define three keyboard shortcuts for certain 1Password functions. What are your shortcuts set to?
- Does this behaviour happen exclusively in Firefox? i.e. if it happens when you visit say www.amazon.com does the behaviour also happen if you visit that same page in Safari or Chrome. For a true comparison this other browser would also required the extension to be installed.
Hopefully those questions might help narrow down the cause.

Many thanks. I shall be back to you in a few days when I have had time to see how it goes in the other browsers. I feel better to know the prospect of rescue is available!

More response from me to your helpful message earlier:
1. In Chrome, the extension (which I installed) behaves normally and doesn't leap out at me, capturing keystrokes. So it seems specific to Firefox.
2. The keystrokes under the General settings are (I'll have to try attaching as not sure where to find the symbols
3. If you wonder whether I'm doing anything unusual in Firefox, I don't think so, (or not intentionally!). The only other extension I have in Firefox is Garmin Communicator 4.2.0.0, but it is disabled.Mark

Hi @Squrk50,
Well those are all of the standard shortcuts so if they were to blame you'd expect to see the issue everywhere and not just in Firefox. Given the issue is the 1Password mini opening and grabbing focus it would be
⌥⌘\
(AKAalt + cmd + \
) as the only keyboard shortcut we could blame but I'd be surprised if you were accidentally pressing that combination on even a semi-regular basis. I use that shortcut a lot myself and I have both my hands have to make quite deliberate moves to access it compared to if I'm just typing.Thing is, I'm not aware of any way to add custom shortcuts to Firefox so I can't think how the extension believes it's being activated.
How do you feel about the following suggestion? We have you create a new user profile in Firefox and use that for a while. If the problem doesn't reoccur we've narrowed it down to something in your profile.
Mozilla have this page on how to Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles. It will show you how to Start the Profile Manager, Creating a profile.
Now a completely blank profile is a bit much to ask you to test for any period of time but they also show you how to copy very particular files from one profile to another (Copying files between profile folders). Using that and knowing that your bookmarks, really the most important bit, are in a file called
places.sqlite
you can copy your bookmarks and browsing history over which should be enough. You'll need to download our extension again but at that point it's a pretty clean profile.I'm working on the hunch that it's something (but I don't know what) in the profile. I don't know what the outcome of this test will be, assuming you're up for giving it a try. Let us know what you think
