1Password Anywhere
Hi,
I'm rather uncomfortable using dropbox but would really like to use 1Password Anywhere. Is there a way I can make a backup or have 1Password sync to a folder that includes 1Password Anywhere without dropbox? I use iCloud for keeping my devices in sync so I'm looking for an option that doesn't require me to disable iCloud syncing.
Thanks,
io41

Hi @io41,
Unfortunately, with the exception of Wi-Fi Sync, you can't have two forms of syncing enabled at the same time for a single vault - it's essentially one or the other. So if you have iCloud Sync enabled that would mean you can't have Folder Sync enabled. I mention Folder Sync because like Dropbox Sync, it uses the same sync container which is the important part for using 1PasswordAnywhere.
There is a sightly clunky method though. This is me just brainstorming so please bear with me
Say on one Mac you create a new secondary vault. The purpose of this vault is simply to keep a copy of everything that is in your primary vault. At the moment that sound kind of pointless except that as it's a separate vault you could set up Folder Sync to a folder on your local drive and that would result in the creation of am .agilekeychain. Every so often you would select everything in your primary and copy it over to the secondary so it remains up to date.
Now there is a gotcha to be aware of. 1PasswordAnywhere works when view it from Dropbox because it's a being served from another machine. Most web browsers these days don't allow JavaScript to be run locally. Now you can disable this restriction in Safari for example but it's per browser and how to do so may even be affected by operating system differences. I haven't tried it in enough places to say.
Now all of that would work although it isn't elegant - that I can't deny. Does that help at all?

Since io41 didn't give an example of situations in which they want to use 1P Anywhere I'm not sure my solution will be responsive to their needs.
I like to keep all my personal info out of the cloud, so I only sync 1P using our home wifi network. I don't like to use 1P Anywhere when I am away from home because it is just a non-automated list of my logins.
I keep an standby 1P folder on each of our computers that includes a 1P keychain file and a short Word document that reminds me what I need to do if I take the computer on a business trip or vacation. If I want to take a computer away from home I copy my current keychain file to that computer's local 1P folder, which replaces and updates the existing keychain file. Then I set the computer to sync to its local 1P folder.
When I get home I set the computer back to syncing with the main 1P sync folder on our home network. It has always worked perfectly for me.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
@littlebobbytables while it's not an automated solution, it'll do perfectly :)
Thanks!
