I am now a pro member but have not really used the product but would love to. I started with the ios app and have touch ID enabled and would like to become a user that resets all their website passwords with a strong password but I need this to be able to work across devices and inside apps and am struggling to figure out how and I do not want to see another manual that does not answer my question. When setting up 1 password on my mac, I have an account that syncs through icloud on my Iphone 6 but have no idea how to sign in on my mac as the only options are new user or existing and there is no solution fro another device provided.

One thing to be sure you know: If you want to continue using iCloud for syncing among iOS devices and the Mac desktop version, you must buy your license from Apple through the Mac App Store. The AgileBits web store version does not have iCloud as an option, because Apple has not allowed applications they don't sell themselves to access the CloudKit protocols that !Password uses.

After you get your copy, open it and tell it you are already a user. You will then be presented with the option to tell it where your data reside, including iCloud (if your copy comes from the Mac App Store). The rest should be pretty much automatic from there. Just allow a little time for the data to sync from iCloud to your new Mac installation.

I need this to be able to work ... inside apps

This may be a problem, if I understand your needs. 1Password for Mac can only automatically fill credentials for web sites. It cannot do so directly for applications. You can, however, use copy and paste to transfer credentials over to applications. For iOS, things a a little different. 1Password can provide credentials directly to applications, but only if the developer of the application has added code to allow 1Password to pass information to it. There is a list of applications that provide such support here. Otherwise, you would also need to use copy and paste for logging in to application on iOs as well.

The documentation is pretty good in my experience. I'm sure it would be useful for AgileBits to know what you have consulted and which questions weren't answered.

Thank you. that is very helpful as I did download the application from this website and not the App store!

If you are already using the web store version, even in trial, take a look at the instructions for moving to the Mac App Store version, here

Also note that trial versions are not allowed by the Mac App Store, but there is currently a sale that you may want to jump on. It will save you enough to make it worthwhile. Also note that Apple provides no way for developers to offer special pricing for upgrades when a paid upgrade comes around. AgileBits can (and does) provide nice discounts for previous users in those cases.

If you have no objection to using Dropbox for syncing amount platforms, you can use the AgileBits web store version and take advantage of those price breaks. Obviously that's a personal choice. Dropbox works very well for me and essentially all of the users who have adopted it.

    Hi,

My biggest issue to solve for on my Iphone with extension is the following. when changing a password, I open th extension and the app and create a new password for the site but itsks me to confirm password in new dialog box. I cannot copy and paste as it does not allow it. Any Ideas?

Is the confirmation box on the same page as the the original entry box? In my experience, 1Password fills in both when you ask it to create a new password. If the confirmation box is on a different page, it makes things more complicated. I don't know that I have a best practice for that. I believe that a new password is also copied automatically to the clipboard, in which case you should be able to paste it into the confirmation box, where ever it is. But I haven't needed to do this in long enough that my memory is hazy. As I say, in my experience, the confirmation box is automatically filled in when 1Password is asked to create a new password.

I expect someone else will be along to lend a hand here, if you suggestion doesn't work. Give it a try and let us know if it helps.

    Hi @kriegs,

Now you are certainly not obliged to at all but my personal recommendation would be that if you are thinking of getting 1Password for Mac (or indeed have already purchased it) then you may very well find changing passwords on your Mac is just a whole lot easier, as in massively so. It isn't meant as a slur on iOS but they're very different and the locked down nature of iOS will probably mean that if our change password process isn't perfect (and even if it is) that changing a password via iOS is just more fiddly. It's just my personal opinion but the more open nature of OS X and freedom that 1Password for Mac has may make it the better platform for this sort of operation.

Our iOS extension is still pretty new but is making great strides. The ability to save a new Login from the extension is new as of version 5.4 so there could very well be improvements we can make. If this is something you want to explore I might split your query off and move it to the iOS section where it will receive better attention. If you'd like that just let us know
