Issue with syncing and vaults

Got a new machine that created a new vault called '1Password' in addition to 'Primary'. On this machine I'd like to remove 'Primary' and make '1Password' my default.

Also, on my old machine I started over with an empty vault and synced via Dropbox but there is a discrepancy in the number of items it syncs between machines. Not sure what I'm doing wrong and my searches in the forum and knowledgebase were unsuccessful.

1Password Version: 5.3.1
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: 10.10.3
Sync Type: Dropbox

    Hi @joewhit,

The most plausible cause of having both a 1Password and Primary vault is if a new Primary vault was first created and instead of syncing to an existing 1Password.agilekeychain the .agilekeychain was double clicked on, causing 1Password to ask if you wish to add it as a secondary vault. If 1Password has been syncing the Primary vault to the 1Password.agilekeychain already it wouldn't allow to add another vault. It's all I can think of to explain it at the moment.

We can clear that up but not by removing the Primary as it's considered special by 1Password and can't be deleted like a secondary vault can. Instead I think the best way forward is to start over like you did on your old machine and tell 1Password to use the existing 1Password.agilekeychain as detailed in our Finding existing 1Password data during setup page.

Before we do that though it's a very good idea if we figure out why the two aren't showing the same number of items.

On your new machine, if you were to open 1Password's preferences and switch to the Sync tab I'd guess that you would find your Primary vault isn't syncing but the secondary vault titled 1Password is. Is it syncing to the same .agilekeychain as the old machine?

If they are both syncing to the same .agilekeychain but still showing different numbers then we will need to look into this.

One route would be to request diagnostic reports from both machines to see if we can identify the cause, the other is to disable Dropbox Sync on both machines, delete the existing 1Password.agilekeychain and have 1Password create a new one that you sync both to. Once your 1Password vault on the new machine and your Primary vault on the old machine are in sync you can feel safe going through the How do I start over with an empty vault? guide on the new machine.

Which route we go down is entirely up to you. If you'd like to go down the route of the diagnostic reports just let us know and we'll let you know what to do. If you the idea of blasting away the existing .agilekeychain is in your comfort zone and you don't need further instructions then go for it. If you're happy with the idea but would like more detail let us know that too. Regardless, we'll work with you until it's resolved
