I have an iPhone with 1Password 3.7 installed. My MacBook Pro has 3.8.21 installed. I have a new MacBook Pro with new 1Password installed from Mac App Store. How can Itransfer my logins, notes, etc. from my old MacBook to my new MacBook and update my 1Password on my phone and my old MacBook Pro. I am not a techie and I seem to be having trouble with Wi-Fi sync.

    Hi @jeff richeson,

I've edited your post to remove the all uppercase text. I find it makes it harder to read compared to correctly capitalised sentences - I hope you don't mind.

1Password 3 for iOS, AKA 1Password for iPhone or 1Password Pro is, due to age, now restricted to Wi-Fi Sync with 1Password 3 for Mac. If you want to run the newer version of 1Password for Mac, which is a good idea, it will mean upgrading 1Password on your iPhone too.

Let's start with migrating your vault across.

The easiest way to do this is with a flash drive and a bit of copying.

    1. On your old MacBook Pro open a Finder window.
    2. Use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G to open the Go to Folder... window.
    3. In the window that opens, paste in the following path ~/Library/Application Support/
    4. You will now be taken to that folder. The first folder should be one titled 1Password.
    5. Copy the entire 1Password folder to your flash drive.
    6. Moving to your new MacBook Pro, open two Finder windows side-by-side.
    7. In the first Finder window repeat steps 2 & 3.
    8. In the second Finder window view your flash drive and copy the 1Password to the other Finder window, the one looking at ~/Library/Application Support/

This works because the first time you open 1Password for Mac it will check all of the default locations for existing data. So what we've done is supply it the data in the right location, just as if you had run 1Password 3 on this Mac.

Now regarding your 1Password on your iPhone. You will want to look at 1Password 5 for iOS which you will find in Apple's App Store on your phone or in iTunes if you normally get apps that way.

You have two options. If you're running 1Password for iPhone 3.7.2 it can offer to migrate your iOS vault over into 1Password 5 for iOS. If the vault on your Mac is the exact same though you can also set up 1Password 5 for iOS using your new Mac to kick start the iOS version.

Now you have 3 options here. As you purchased 1Password 5 for Mac via Apple's Mac App Store you can sync your new Mac and your iOS device using either:

    1. Sync with iCloud
    2. Sync with Dropbox
    3. Wi-Fi Sync

Those guides are for setting up sync on your Mac. After you've done that you can then use our page, Existing 1Password user (iOS) to get the iPhone up and running.

Now as you are a self-confessed non-techie please do ask if you have any questions and we'll do our best to expand the sections that aren't clear enough.
