1password no longer prompts to create secondary vault from agilekeychain stored vault.
Hi,
We use multiple vaults to manage our departmental IT passwords. It was working fine until recently, but now if I try to add a vault to my 1password app it no longer prompts to create the vault. It just opens 1password to my default vault. i.e. when you double click on the vaultname.agilekeychain file for whatever vault we want to add it use to prompt to create new vault.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi @lazz,
That's odd, I'm not sure why that would suddenly stop working. This is probably a silly question to ask someone working in an IT department, but have you restarted that Mac to see if it makes any difference?
Is the 1Password app open when you double-click the .agilekeychain? If not, please open the main 1Password app and try again to add that vault, and it should work.
If not, what happens if you open the 1Password app, then drag the .agilekeychain to the 1Password icon in the Dock? That should also cause 1Password to prompt you to create a new vault.
Let us know how it goes, and we'll continue from there if you're still having trouble. Thanks!

Hi Drew,
No problem, its a common enough solution to most problems ;) ... yes restarted with same results. I had also tried adding the vault with the 1pw app open, and when closed. When closed it will open the app, but still not initiate a vault import. Same results if you try to drag the file to the icon bar 1pw app. One thing it does do is throw out an "alert" sound, in the case of my mac the default alert sound of "funk". i.e. like if you try a keyboard shortcut that does not exist within the application it will throw up a similar sound. My main vault syncs with icloud, and the 2nd/3rd ones I usually have sync via a folder with others. In the past I've just double clicked and had it work. Should I try killing any prefs, and/or just reinstalling the tool.

One other concerning thing I just noticed is if I create a new vault, delete it, I can reimport it by double clicking etc. So it seems to be an issue related with our previous PW vaults.

Hi @lazz,
I haven't heard of a problem like this before, but I'm curious if, by chance, it may be happening because you don't have your primary vault selected/active when you're clicking the .agilekeychain that you want to add?
If not, I may at least have a workaround suggestion: can you create a new empty secondary vault and sync it with the desired .agilekeychain?

Hi, well the primary vault works fine. As mentioned above I am also able to create new vaults and re-import them after removing them. It seems to be related just to these 2 .agilekeychain files. I also tried your recommendation. However, When you say sync it with an empty vault it only lets you choose a folder in which the already existing .agilekeychain is in. Which then forces you to create a new vault with the same name as the .agilekeychain. Which results is not a sync'ing of the existing .agilekeychain but instead an error saying it can't create the new .agilekeychain as the only option is to create new, vs, any sync button if you see what I'm saying.
thanks

Hi @lazz,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about trying to create a new/empty vault in 1Password and syncing it with the existing .agilekeychain. I just tested it on my Mac to make sure it works as expected, and I didn't run into any problems. Can you please make sure you're following these steps:
- Open the main 1Password app and make sure you're in the Primary vault (press ⌘1 as a shortcut).
- Go to 1Password > New Vault in the menu.
- Enter a name for the vault, choose the same master password as the .agilekeychain you want to sync, enter a hint, and click Create New Vault (you should now be looking at a new, empty vault).
- Go to 1Password > Preferences > Sync, and select that new vault under Vaults.
- Click the “Sync vault with” pop-up menu and select Dropbox or Folder (depending on where the .agilekeychain is stored).
- Click the Choose button and select the .agilekeychain you want to sync with (then click Open).
- Click Merge With Existing to sync the data from that .agilekeychain (enter the master password for the .agilekeychain if prompted).
At this point, the data from the .agilekeychain should be shown in the new vault. If it doesn't work as expected, at what step do you run into a problem, and what happens instead? If you get an error message, can you let us know exactly what it says? Thanks!

Hi Drew, pretty much what you've listed is what I try to do. At the point it now fails is that it won't allow me to choose the .agilekeychain and hit ok. It just keeps the browse window open, with my .agilekeychain there as an option, but it won't start the import process.
I'm noticing the .agilekeychain file permissions on this troublesome file is my mac user, and everyone. However, if I create a new vault the new vault file has also a group "staff" on there. Could this be a file level permissions thing, does the .agilekeychain need the staff group permission in there top be able to import/open it?
Thanks...

On another point, is it possible to restore a backup just for a secondary vault without killing off the main vault? Maybe I'll just restore if that is possible.
Thx

Hi Guys, you can close this one. I decided just to do an export of recent changes, restore an old backup in full with all secondary vaults and reimport the changes in. No idea whats wrong with those .agile files but not worth more time messing around with them.
Thanks for all the help.
cheers

Hi @lazz,
Thanks for letting us know how you worked around the problem! I'm sorry you had such difficulty with that, but I think you may have found the cause of the issue:
I'm noticing the .agilekeychain file permissions on this troublesome file is my mac user, and everyone. However, if I create a new vault the new vault file has also a group "staff" on there. Could this be a file level permissions thing, does the .agilekeychain need the staff group permission in there top be able to import/open it?
The file permissions could be the problem here. Is that .agilekeychain located in (or copied from) a shared folder from another Mac, or something similar? That might have caused the problem.
is it possible to restore a backup just for a secondary vault without killing off the main vault?
You probably already figured this out, but just in case others are looking for an answer: Restoring from a 1Password for Mac backup will restore all the vaults in that backup file. It's not currently possible to choose only one vault to be restored.
Hopefully you're all set, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know. :)
