Feature Request: Can you add a Category for Encryption Keys to a future version?
I've just opened my Protonmail account and have stored my Encryption Key as a second password but it would be nice to make a proper distinction and have customised fields.

Hi @chas_newport,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us with your suggestion!
it would be nice to make a proper distinction and have customised fields.
It's actually already possible to add custom fields to items in 1Password. You can find more information here: Add custom fields
Does that help, or were you asking for a completely separate item category?

I think a category would be appropriate... behaviour is different. For instance Protonmail pops up a dialogue box asking just for the encryption key. No user ID or identifying information. That means these pages can be identified and the list of available entries in the 1P database filtered for ease of use. You might want to apply for a Protonmail address BTW while it's early days and you have a chance to get your actual name without numbers etc. There's a good TED Talk about the crypto principles behind it.

Hi @chas_newport,
If I've understood correctly, you have the encryption key as a custom field (of type password) in the Login item for this site but you'd prefer if the encryption key was a totally separate item, is that correct?
We do have a request for custom categories and I can certainly add your interest to that request if you like. For stuff like this I tend to make use of the Password item category. I don't know if that would be a suitable workaround or not, it depends if I've understood your needs correctly. The normal use of the Password item category is to temporarily store password generated by our Password Generator but I find it useful for those password requirements like yours, where it's a password and nothing else because maybe it's a password in an application or an encrypted disk image etc. Would that work at all for you?

Yeah, that works perfectly... hadn't thought of it. Thanks for the help... will still look forward to Custom categories though, excellent idea.

I'll add that as a vote for custom categories @chas_newport
