Legacy version for Mac OS 10.5.8

Hi - I have a network of several macs using OS 10.10.3, 10.8.5 and 10.5.8. These all fulfill specific functions and can't be upgraded beyond their current OS. Is there a version of 1password that I can use with the G5 (10.5.8) that will sync with the others?

    Hi @McGuffin,

Now a 1Password 5 licence will cover you for 1Password 3-5. The thing to make sure of though is that there is a version of 1Password 3 that will work with the PowerPC architecture.

My suggestion would be to see if 1Password 3.5.15 works. I believe it should but I have nothing even remotely compatible to verify this - sorry.

Assuming it does have a risc binary and run then it should be possible to have all of them sync but it won't be easy.

    • Your 10.10.3 Mac can run 1Password 5
    • Your 10.8.5 Mac can run 1Password 4
    • Your 10.5.8 Mac can (hopefully) run 1Password 3.5.15

Syncing the Yosemite and Mountain Lion machine should be easy as both can use Dropbox. The problem is once again your Leopard machine as Dropbox don't support it any more. If you were willing to add/modify your vault only from your newer Macs you could easily copy the 1Password.agilekeychain to the Leopard machine every so often so it had an up to date vault. If you need to modify your vault from all three machines it becomes tougher and I'd be concerned about the risk of conflicts.

You may very well have follow up questions. If you do please do ask and we'll do our best to answer all of your queries.

Thanks for this... I'll give it a shot when I have a minute and let you know if there are any issues.

@McGuffin: lil bobby is correct: 1Password 3.6 and later dropped support for PowerPC Macs and Leopard, so 1Password 3.5.15 will be the newest version you can use there.

And just to clarify a bit, Dropbox 1.2 coincided with 1Password 3.6, and as a lot of changes happened there (and since!) your mileage may very with regard to syncing with Leopard using Dropbox...but so long as you back up your data first, it's at least worth a try I'd say. :)

I too have a 0S 10.8.5 specific system and would like to us 1password 4 on it. (I already have a 1password 5 license running on Yosemite.) How do I get it? Is it in downloads and I am just missing it?

@derf423 - Where did you purchase your license for 1Password for Mac? You can tell by clicking on the 1Password 5 menu and selecting About 1Password. The resulting screen will give the version number and tell you if you bought your license from AgileBit or the Mac App Store.

If you bought your license for 1Password 5 from the AgileBits web store, the same license file you used to register your copy will also work to register 1Password 4. You would download a copy of 1Password 4 from the AgileBits Downloads page. Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will find the links to legacy versions. Once its installed, apply your version 5 license to it.

If you bought from Apple's Mac App Store, you should be able to get a copy of 1Password for on OS X 10.8.5 by signing in to the Mac App Strore from that machine and then going to the Mac App Store. If you click the Purchases tab there, you should find a copy of the most recent version that you can use on your older version of OS X.
