iCloud synchronization not working

I'm using 1Password 5.3.2 on a Mac with OS X 10.10.3 and 1Password 5.4.2 on an iPhone and an iPad with iOS 8.3. iCloud Drive is enabled on all devices. All devices use the same Apple ID and are logged in to iCloud.

Syncing via iCloud has stopped working to and from my Mac. It does work between iPhone and iPad.

1Password on my Mac does not offer any iCloud syncing option (only Dropbox and Folder) in the preferences and no Reset iCloud Data option under Help > Troubleshooting.

What is wrong and how can it be fixed? Thanks.

1Password Version: 5.3.

    Hi @desertman,

It sounds like you're currently using the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can only be used by apps sold through Apple. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. You can find more information about that here: I do not see the option to sync with iCloud in 1Password for Mac

You said iCloud sync was previously working in 1Password on your Mac - was that also version 5? If so, is it possible you were previously using the Mac App Store version, and at some point switched to the version available from our website? If you purchased 1Password for Mac from the Mac App Store, you simply need to reinstall the Mac App Store version. Just launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase, and reinstall 1Password from the Purchases section.

Does that seem to describe what happened? If not, please let us know. Thanks!

I do not have 1Password in the Purchased section of my App Store. I guess that means I bought a feature-reduced AgileBits store version. If you need my serial number let me know how to get it to you in a safe way.

Why on earth are you people selling two different products in two different stores with identical names? The version you are selling through your own store seems to be more like a "1Password Light" and should be named like that (and have a different price).

How do I get now a not feature-reduced version of 1Password 5 without having to pay a second time?

I am wondering what exactly you bought, as 1PW5 does not use a serial number, it uses a license FILE. I realise you may just be using the wrong words. But perhaps you never bought 1PW5 (it works as a trial for thirty days). Or perhaps you bought it recently in which case you can get a refund.

I know the situation with iCloud is confusing (though it is stated on the purchase page of the web store). But it really isn't a matter of 'feature-reduced". It is just not possible, as @Drew_AG said, to include iCloud sync on items not bought direct from the App Store. So AgileBits really only had three options, the current one (which I think is best), not including iCloud sync at all (which would have saved a lot of trouble but removed a useful possibility), or selling ONLY through the App Store, which many of us would have objected to, and which would remove some functionality.

The real question is how attached are you to iCloud sync. I know many people particularly prefer it, but Dropbox sync is slightly superior and is as reliable and secure as iCloud sync.

    Hi @desertman,

iCloud Sync is the only feature that's missing from the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac, for the reasons outlined in the link that Drew posted; other than that, they're basically identical, so they cost the same.

If you have purchased 1Password 5 from our website in the past 30 days and would like a refund so that you can put that money toward the Mac App Store version, please email your receipt to support+forum@agilebits.com and we'll be glad to process that refund for you.

If you bought 1Password from the Mac App Store previously and it's not appearing in the Purchases tab, double-check that you're logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it. It's also possible you'd need to unhide purchases.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions. Thanks! :)
