Create strong passwords from script or command line

In order to help users secure accounts on other (embedded) systems, I would like to utilize the password generator in my licensed copy of 1Password to create passwords on demand. Is there any facility to do this within the program today? I do not want them stored, just generated. While it can be done through the menu, it get cumbersome when wanting to create dozens or more passwords at one time.

OS Version: 10.9.5
Sync Type: None.

    Hi @ynotcreative,

Yes, you can use the password generator in 1Password any time you'd like, and you don't have to store/save them in 1Password if you don't want to. You can generate passwords from the main 1Password app, or from 1Password mini (in your Mac's menu bar).

In the main 1Password 4 app, the password generator will appear when editing the password field of an item, like a Login or Password item. You can create a new Login or Password item to generate the passwords (and then cancel the changes or delete the new item if you don't want to save it in your 1Password vault).

In 1Password mini, you'll see an option for the Password Generator, and you can use that to generate passwords. If you click the Fill button (or if you click the ▼ button next to Fill and choose Copy), that will create a new "Password" item in 1Password - but again, you can delete those if you want.

Does that help to answer your question? If I misunderstood or if you need anything else, please let us know - we're here for you! :)

Thank you for the response Drew.

Somehow my post lost an entire paragraph. I am looking to automate the process and was asking for a facility within script or command-line to generate passwords.

    Hi @ynotcreative,

Thanks for clarifying - you referred to that in the title of your post, but I somehow missed that.

I checked with a developer here to make sure, and I'm afraid there's currently no way to do that. I can let our developers know you'd like to be able to do that, although I can't make any promises. I can see how that would be helpful!

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you about that. If you have more questions or need anything else, please let us know. :)

I would definitely like to see that as a feature in the future. I figure the more ways we can help and guide people to better security, the better.
