How do I use 1Password on two of my computers without having to purchase again.

I have an iMac that has 1Password on it that I purchased several years ago. I now use a MacPro laptop for when I travel. How can I install it on my laptop without having to purchase again. I also have it on my two iPhones and two iPads. I'm hoping that now that I have a new computer it will sync with my other devices.

As it was "several years ago" I would guess that you are still using 1Password 3. If you want to use 1PW3 on the other Mac, then you need to download it from the legacy section of the AgileBits web site (near the bottom of the page), and to apply your license key. But I think you would do better to upgrade.

1PW4 is a paid upgrade from 1PW3, and 1PW5 a free upgrade from 1PW4. They use the same license, but it is a licence FILE, not a key. Again just download 1PW, and apply the license.

Or you could buy from theMac App Store. In that case the purchase is tied to your Apple ID, but no discount is available for earlier purchases (Apple's rules, not AgileBits). The one advantage of this is that you can use iCloud sync if you wish, whereas if you buy direct from AgileBits iCloud sync is not available though Dropbox sync (which, technically, is as good) will work.

There could be sync issues, depending on which versions of 1PW you have on your iDevices and on your Macs, but almost certainly they can be dealt with.

    Hi @marlagadsby,

The information from danco is spot on, and I just wanted to add a bit to that:

I searched our system for the email address associated with your forum account, and it looks like you have a license for 1Password 3 for Mac, so I'll assume you haven't purchased an upgrade to 1Password 4/5. In that case, you can download 1Password 3 for Mac from the "Legacy" section at the bottom of our download site, and activate it with your license code for version 3 (I had that resent to your email in case you needed a copy).

As far as syncing 1Password between your Macs and iOS devices, your options are going to depend on the version of 1Password on your iPhones and iPads. If the steps in that link don't seem to match what you're seeing on your iOS devices, you can use this image to help you identify your version.

If you can let us know the version of 1Password on your iPhones and iPads, we'll be able to give you more specific details about syncing. Thanks!

@marlagadsby - In addition, you haven't said whether you have to iOS version on your iPhones and iPads. If you haven't, that version is free to download and use in its basic form, but it requires an in-app purchase to active some additional Pro features. Once purchased, you will be able to use the Pro version on all your iOS devices, as long as all of them use the same AppleID.

If you already have the iOS version running on those devices, never mind this post. :)

I know this thread already has a lot of information about licenses, @marlagadsby, but I just want to add one more thing: if you do want to upgrade, you can use your 1Password 3 license key to get 50% off a 1Password 5 license (or a Mac & Windows bundle) in our upgrade store here.

We can get to the syncing question after you let us know the version numbers Drew requested. :) Cheers.

Thank you, all of you. I will digest what you have said and get back with any more question. It will take me a little time to figure it all out and try what you have said.

That's no problem at all, @marlagadsby, take your time. We'll leave this thread open for you to come back to when you have a chance.

    Have a nice weekend! :)

I successfully loaded the original 1Passport I purchased. I have not upgraded yet as it may cause problems with syncing my various devices. My iPhone 6 and my new Mac Pro work well together using the dropbox. My old iPad and old iPhone 4 do not seem to work even thought they both have dropbox and are set to sync with dropbox. My dropbox account online says that all three devices have been added to dropbox, but when I try to sync on the iPad, dropbox does not recognize my email or password. I originally had two drop box accounts, one with me.com and gmail.com. I believe I added the gmail account not realizing I had the me.com account. All my devices now have dropbox with the gmail account and 1Password has been added. I believe originally I had 1Password set up to sync with WiFi for the two iPhones (both were iPhone 4's at the time) and two iPads. I believe my iMac didn't work that way and I had it sync thru dropbox . But honestly I set it up when I got the iPhone 4's and I don't remember. I just recently got the iPhone 6. My iMac has only been upgraded once and I need to add memory to upgrade to any of the last three systems. I keep saying "I believe" because it is hard to remember what I did previously. I would like to have at least the iPhones and iPads syncing with the laptop. I'm not concerned about the iMac at this time. It takes me a while, but usually I can figure it out with a little help. Thanks for your patience. I probably won't be able to get back to this for a few days.

    Oh, my 1Password versions are:
on the iPhone 4 it is version 4.0,
on the iPad it is version 3.7.2.
on the iPhone 6 it is version 5.
On the MacPro I downloaded version 4.

I see that may also be the problem. I have so many different devices with different IOS's and different 1Password.

@marlagadsby: Ah, yes. You are correct: 1Password touch version 3 (which you're using on your iPad) is not able to sync with Dropbox, as they discontinued the API it was using back in 2013.

Dropbox Sync is supported on all current versions of 1Password across all platforms, so updating won't be a problem there. But the only way to sync 1Password touch 3 is with 1Password 3 for Mac, so it sounds like that may be what's holding you back.

All the other devices you listed will be able to sync with each other. And -- most importantly -- since you already have your data in Dropbox, when you do update or set up 1Password on a new device, you can just log into your Dropbox account and point it to your existing vault. I hope this helps! :)
