Mac & IOS
I'm a bit puzzled. Downloaded 1Password from my Apple App for $49.99, yet it can be downloaded here. Is it the same software to be downloaded from your site? I need to be able to sync all data from my Mac to my iPhone and iPad.

If it's not the same thing, will need to request a refund from Apple. So pls let me know ASAP.

It's essentially the same. There are some slight differences, due to restrictions by Apple.
Only the version from the App Store has iCloud sync.
Only the direct version has a trial period, and only that version can offer discounts when you upgrade ( there will probably be a paid upgrade at some future point, but not soon).
It's common for programs to be sold both direct from the developer and in the App Store, for this kind of reason.
No need to change, as you have already bought.

@marlene: Sorry for the confusion! We sell 1Password for Mac both through Apple's Mac App Store and our own AgileBits Store. The only difference between the two (besides where you go to purchase and download them) is that only the Mac App Store version is allowed to have iCloud Sync.
Otherwise, you can still use Dropbox Sync between all current versions of 1Password, regardless of platform. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions, or if you need help with anything else! :)

Are you saying 1Password for Mac thru Apple App Store and 1Password for iPhone and iPad from AgileBits will sync? And if so, using Dropbox will sync everything from Mac's iCloud version?

1PW for iPhone and iPad is (as all iOS apps are) ONLY available through the iOS App Store (either the app on the iDevice, or reached using iTunes on the Mac). And yes, syncing is possible in all versions using Dropbox, and also using iCloud provided the Mac version is bought from the Mac App Store.

Hi @marlene,
As danco has covered, 1Password for iOS is only available via Apple's store because that's the only store for iOS. The Mac side is slightly more complicated because we sold 1Password for Mac long before Apple's Mac App Store ever existed. We decided to also sell through their Mac App Store as an option for those that preferred Apple's stores.
Until iCloud Drive, released at the same time as iOS 8 and Yosemite, it didn't matter where you purchased 1Password from - they shared identical features. As of iCloud Drive only apps or applications purchased from Apple's stores can access iCloud related frameworks. This means iCloud Sync is only possible using apps or applications purchased from Apple. As Dropbox is independent of Apple it's the cross-platform cloud service that syncs over all the platforms and versions of 1Password currently purchasable anywhere.
So if you want to sync using Dropbox then it doesn't matter where you purchased 1Password for Mac from. The only time is important is if you desire iCloud Sync support and you've purchased the right version of 1Password for Mac so that isn't a worry.
If you have any follow up questions do please ask

Uh-oh, here's another one. I had 1Password which was downloaded from Apple Store app on June 4th, and minutes ago see a refund was put on my credit card on June 7th. Had been trying to sync full info from iCloud but have been unable to do so. I still have the icon on my computer. Where do I go from here?
With 1Password from the Apple Store app, would I automatically receive updates whenever Agilebits updates the 1Password product?

Hi @marlene,
Did you request a refund for 1Password from the Mac App Store? Getting a refund of an app purchase from the App Store may prevent you from buying that app in the future, and I'm not sure whether it keeps the existing app from working on your computer but I'd expect maybe so. May I ask why you requested the refund? Was it just because you were having trouble setting up iCloud Sync?
Apple runs that store and we have no access to or control over transactions there, so if you got a refund for 1Password and want to keep that version after all for iCloud Sync, you may need to contact Apple support to try to reverse the refund. But if you have that version, we'll be happy to work with you to get iCloud Sync set up. Otherwise, Dropbox Sync works just as well on all the same devices.
You said you still have the icon. Are you still able to launch and run 1Password on your Mac?
Regarding automatic updates: point updates (for instance: 5.3, 5.4) are free to all customers who purchased the latest version of the app, regardless of whether you bought it from the Mac App Store or our AgileBits Store. We don't announce future upgrade plans until they happen, and major upgrades sometimes will require an additional purchase. But we always aim to stay fair to our loyal users; we tend offer generous upgrade discounts (or free upgrades for a certain window of time) for previous users, and you'll never be required to upgrade (i.e., you can always keep using the version you've already paid for).
Thanks for your questions here. I look forward to your response, and helping you find a sync solution that works for you! :)

Also, we offer upgrade pricing for existing AgileBits Store customers since, well...it's our store; and we try to have nice sales in the Mac App Store throughout the year as well for customers who want to 'switch'. :chuffed:

After talking with Apple reps, was told I can re-purchase thru the Apple App store as long as I delete 1Password from all of my devices...which I did. Now what I see are exactly the same 6 items in my re-purchased 1Password. I don't see an option to sync to iCloud. It's as if I got back whatever I had from before--before I received the refund. Where do I click to do the sync?

Hi @marlene,
If you're using 1Password installed from the Mac App Store, iCloud sync can be configured by selecting from the menu bar: 1Password > Preferences... > Sync > Sync Primary vault with...
If you're not seeing iCloud as an option there, then you're using the version of the app downloaded from our website. Here's another way to check which version you're using: Which version of 1Password am I running?
You may have multiple versions installed. Here's how I recommend you proceed:
- Fully quit 1Password: from the main app's 1Password menu, press and hold the control key and select Quit 1Password and 1Password mini
- Check the Applications folder and the Downloads folder, drag all instances of the 1Password app to the Trash, empty the Trash
- Restart your Mac
- Reinstall 1Password on your Mac from the Purchases tab of the Mac App Store
You should then be able to use iCloud sync. Let us know how it goes! :)

Hi Vee,
Followed your instructions and I'm back to where I was before. No option to start off as new.
iCloud option is still there and no option to do a full download as a new product.
Where else do I go? I see a "+" sign at the bottom of the screen. Where else can I do a sync?0 -
I tried something else. Downloaded 1Password to my iPhone, opened it and this is what I see: "Welcome to 1Password. Would you like to sync with an existing 1Password vault or create a new one?" There are two options: Create new vault, and Sync existing vault. Should I create???
Welcome to 1Password greeting did not show up when I re-purchased the app nor after following your instructions.

I just thought of something else. When I re-purchased and installed 1Password, I typed in the previous password that was used. Was not asked to create a password. Would this be why I'm seeing the same stuff? Need to create as new. How do I get around that without creating a mess?

Hi @marlene,
I apologize, I think I misunderstood what you're trying to do. If you're trying to permanently delete all your saved data and start over with a new empty vault, you can follow these steps on your Mac: How do I start over with an empty vault?
Then you can configure iCloud sync like so: Sync with iCloud
Hopefully this will help you accomplish what you want with 1Password, but if I'm off base, please do let me know. Thanks! :)

Didn't work. Same info when sync-ed. If I select a new vault, will it override the current one I have.?

Hey @marlene,
I'm sorry the starting over instructions didn't help you. I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac. Here's how:
https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.htmlThen attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can quickly track down the Report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

@marlene: It sounds like there may be some confusion. If you've followed the steps in the previous post by Vee to start over and you're still getting a vault, that sounds like you were successful in syncing to iCloud, when you had indicated that that was not the case.
So what you can do is delete the data from iCloud (in 1Password go to Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data) and then you'll be able to start over completely with a brand new vault. I hope this helps! :)

Hi Brenty,
Before I move forward, need a complete guarantee that resetting iCloud Data will affect only data in the 1Password app--and will not delete data from other apps, programs, etc.

Hi @marlene,
It's always good to be cautious with your data, thanks for asking! :)
If you open 1Password and go to Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data, that will erase only your 1Password data from iCloud. Nothing else in iCloud will be removed, so it won't cause any problems for your other apps.
If you have more questions, just let us know.

Thank you, Drew,
Do I need to follow the same instructions in my iPhone and iPad?
I should probably remove 1Password from those two devices before following through?0 -
Hi @marlene,
You don't need to reset the iCloud data from 1Password on your iPhone or iPad, because that will have already been done from your Mac. However, the 1Password app on those devices should still have a local copy of your data. If you want to delete that and start over (like on your Mac), you can delete the 1Password app from your iPhone and iPad, then reinstall it. We have more specific steps in this knowledgebase article (you can skip Step 1 if you already reset the iCloud data from your Mac).
I hope that helps, but as always, we're here for you if you have more questions! :)

Hi Drew,
Spent a lot of time trying to get 1 Password to work correctly. Followed above instructions and had to rework this several times. I deleted not only the folder named 2BUA8C4S2C.com..., also had to delete another file (agailebits.onepassword...). Previous info kept being attached, so deleted from my desktop and trash bin, then started over again. iOS looks the same but am unable to get into 1Password on my Mac. Was finally able to see 1Password Mini and clicked to save. 1Password opens a Welcome screen and when clicking "Awesome! Let's Get Started", the screen disappears. I then went back into 1Password preferences and Installed Browser Extensions. Still nothing. Looks like parts in Preferences need to be adjusted but they're in the background (faded) so am unable to do anything else. Am still unable to open 1Password. Wish there's a technie in metro Denver to help me with this as I really want to use 1Password.

Additional info: These two files are in my Finder folder....

Hi Brenty,
Before I move forward, need a complete guarantee that resetting iCloud Data will affect only data in the 1Password app--and will not delete data from other apps, programs, etc.
@marlene: I'm sorry for not being more clear! Thanks for asking! In fact, Apple gives each developer (such as AgileBits) a separate iCloud 'container' for their app data (such as 1Password), so none can access the others. So when you have 1Password 'reset iCloud data', it can only ever clear its own data.
Even a malicious app couldn't delete your other apps' iCloud data, because Apple simply doesn't allow this kind of access. :+1:
Since we're in contact with you via email, we can continue the conversation there. I'll close this thread, but I wanted to answer your great question in case you or anyone else can benefit. Cheers! :)
