Why do my Mac, iPad & iPhone have different number of items after iCloud sync
I'm using iCloud to sync One Password between my Mac, iPad & iPhone. The Mac says I have 291 items in One Password but both the iPad & iPhone show only 259 items. Shouldn't there be the same number of items on all three devices? Any ideas on how to correct this?
1Password Version: 5.3.2
Extension Version: 4.3.1
OS Version: OS 10.10.3
Sync Type: iCloud

Hi @chrisjanaan!
There certainly should be the same number of items across all devices which are syncing the same 1Password agilekeychain. However, there could be a number of reasons why different devices show different item counts. One would be that sync has not yet occurred on one or more of the devices yet. Another - and I've fallen victim to this myself more than once - is that you're looking at the count of logins, for example, instead of the total item count. A third may have to do with items in the trash.
If you're certain you're checking in the proper location (All Items), and you've given each device the time to sync, then it sounds like something else might be going on, but let's check those things first.

Thanks for the reply. I emptied the trash in the Mac's One Password (but the item count didn't change) & I have synced the iPad & iPhone. I'm wondering if the difference in the item count has to do with me installing One Password from the AngleBits website rather then the app store. When on the Mac & I look at preferences> sync>, the only choices I have to sync the primary vault is Dropbox & Folder. Might this be where the problem lies?

Hi @chrisjanaan,
Yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head - iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That's because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Stores. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. We have more information about that in these knowledgebase articles:
Why does iCloud require iOS 8, OS X 10.10, and the Mac App Store?
I do not see the option to sync with iCloud in 1Password for Mac
Have you previously purchased 1Password for Mac from the Mac App Store? If so, you can launch the Mac App Store and reinstall 1Password from the Purchases section (make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it). If you haven't already purchased the Mac App Store version, you would need to do so in order to use iCloud sync. If you switch to the Mac App Store version, we have a guide to help you do that here: Switching to the version of 1Password from the Mac App Store
Did you purchase a license for 1Password for Mac from the AgileBits Store, or are you using it as a free trial? If you bought a license from the AgileBits Store within the last 30 days, we can refund that purchase so you can buy it from the Mac App Store instead.
Alternately, you can sync your 1Password data between your Mac and iOS devices by switching to Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync.
I'm sorry for the confusion about that! If you have more questions or need help to get sync working, please let us know. Thanks!

I don't have the Mac version. I bought mine from the AngleBits website on 3/30/14. If I'm reading the instructions on how to switch versions, it doesn't look like I'll be able to switch to the Mac version since I've had it longer than 30 days. If I have to use Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync, is there an advantage to choosing one over the other?

Hi @chrisjanaan,
Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to offer a refund on a purchase from early 2014 - sorry. That would mean that if you only wanted to use iCloud Sync it would require another purchase of the Mac App Store version of 1Password for Mac. For some they see this as the only option - it really depends on how strong your feelings are with the various sync methods available.
Dropbox is very much like iCloud. It's a cloud service and you would install a small client on your Macs. It would simply appear as a folder on your Mac and you would add/modify/delete files as normal. These changes are first pushed to Dropbox's server and then onto all the devices and Macs you connect to it. Dropbox has a couple of advantages over iCloud. It supports sharing of secondary vaults and it's cross-platform, working everywhere 1Password runs as well as having better version support - iCloud and the newer iCloud Drive are different beasts that don't communicate with each other. Like iCloud, the sync data you would store in Dropbox is itself encrypted on top of any security the cloud service uses itself.
Wi-Fi Sync is a nod to all of those that don't want to use a cloud service at all. There are a few of us out there and yes, I am one. I find Wi-Fi Sync is pretty good these days but it's local sync only. 1Password has to be unlocked on both your Mac and your iOS device and they have to be on the same network. We accept this though as it means our data never leaves our own networks.
If you are happy with how iCloud Sync works and don't have a strong personal preference I would recommend trying out Dropbox (see Sync with Dropbox). It's what many of the team here use.
If we can be of any assistance or you have any queries please do post back

Hi @chrisjanaan,
I'm happy to hear Dropbox was an acceptable alternative and that you now have it up and running
As this seems to be resolved I'm going to close this thread but if you have any questions or issues in the future don't hesitate to post!
