Over 1000 files in my sync backup - why?
I have my 1Password sync backup done via dropbox. I have a folder called "default" that has over 1000 files in it. All of them with long names with random letters and numbers ending in .1password.
These files exist in the following folder:
Dropbox | 1Password Sync Backup | 1Password.agilekeychain | data | default
This seems odd an suspicious.
Is this normal?
1Password Version:_5.3.2
_Extension Version:_4.3.1
_OS Version: 10.10.3
Sync Type: Dropbox

Hi @Paul Burner,
The 1Password.agilekeychain is what we refer to as a file bundle. OS X treats it as a single file but in reality it's a folder like any other. Now for performance reasons the old .agilekeychain format would encrypt each item in your vault as a separate file with the long name being the UUID for that item. This way, when you changed an item in your vault it only altered a single file in the .agilekeychain meaning Dropbox only had one small file to sync.
So if you have 1000 files I would expect you have a relatively large vault and maybe you've deleted a number of items over time too. When you move an item to 1Password's Trash we still keep the file so it can be recovered, that bit will make sense. When you complete delete an item though we need a way for completely separate copies of 1Password to know that an item has been deleted on say device A and that it isn't that device B has a new item. One way to do this is with what we call tombstone files. They're 0 byte files and that lets 1Password know that an item with this UUID once existed but is now permanently deleted. Any copy of 1Password with an item with that UUID then knows to also delete the item from the vault.
Given this knowledge of the .agilekeychain do you feel more comfortable with the number of files inside that folder?
