Vault not syncing/merging from Dropbox?

I'm setting up a new computer with 1Password. My vault is in Dropbox. When I go to setup sync, I see a screen which lists a Primary vault and says sync is "None." I change that to Dropbox and get a screen that asks me to find the Dropbox folder. Because the new company I work at uses Dropbox internally, I have a folder named 'Dropbox (Personal)' where my 1Password vault is. I select that folder and get a message saying "1Password found existing data in Dropbox. It will be merged with your current vault." That seems perfectly reasonable to me, so I click the "Merge with Existing" button. This shows me a merging screen with my Primary Vault on the left (empty) and the Dropbox vault on the right with a password box. I enter my password and click "Unlock and Merge". At this point the dialog disappears and I get back to the Sync setup modal dialog in preferences. Nothing seems to have happened, it simply silently fails.

Any ideas?

    I've got more to offer here. I figured out how I got into this state in the first place, and it may be related to the same problem. When I first setup 1Password, I clicked the "I've used 1Password before" option, selected Dropbox, picked my vault, was asked for my password and, when I entered it, nothing happened. I hit enter again after a few seconds and got a message saying there was already a vault named "default". Nothing seemed to change at that point, so I restarted the app. At that point it prompted me for a password -- I gave it the password I'm used to using that's associated with the Dropbox vault. That got me past the login screen, but it didn't show any login items, the vault was totally empty. At that point I went to my sync settings, noticed it said "None", and then tried the stuff above.

    I'm trying now to sync over iCloud, since that's a temporary option for me (I will need to figure out what's going on eventually, because I have a Windows box that I sync with as well).

    I'm sorry you're having trouble setting up Dropbox Sync on the new Mac. Thanks for providing a detailed description of the problem. I think we'll get a clearer view of what might be going on if we could have a look at a Diagnostics Report from your new Mac, as well as one from a computer/device you were previously using 1Password on before this. If you wouldn't mind, here's how to create Diagnostics Reports:
