Lost all my data

I lost all my 1Password data after having to erase and reinstall Yosemite on my hard drive, although I did a complete backup first. In my backup drive, under Application Support and Backups, there is a file named "1Password 2015-06-07 10_13_04 (0 profiles, 0 items, 0 folders, 0 attachments).1p4_zip." When I open it, it becomes "OnePassword.sqlite," the same as what's in the Data folder, and as you can see there is nothing in that backup. Do I understand correctly that what I need is a file called, "com.agilebits.onepassword4.plist"?

At any rate, as a result of this loss, not only can I not get my data, but I can't use the app, as I don't have access to my credentials for having purchased it. I don't even recall what I email address I used to purchase it.

How do I fix this?

    Hi @soulscape,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble finding a backup of your 1Password data, and also having trouble finding your license info!

The first thing to determine is whether you had been using the AgileBits Store version or the Mac App Store version of 1Password on your Mac. We have more information in this knowledgebase article. This will make a difference for both the location of its backup files, and also the licensing. If you were using the AgileBits Store version, you can download 1Password from our download site. If you were using the Mac App Store version, you'll need to launch the Mac App Store and reinstall it from the Purchases section.

The location of your 1Password data and backup files will be different, depending on whether you were using the AgileBits Store or Mac App Store version. Those locations are listed here: Where does 1Password store its data?

On your backup drive, you may want to check both locations for your 1Password backup files (especially if you're not sure which version you had been using). The backup file you found doesn't seem to contain any of your 1Password data, as indicated in its file name (1Password 2015-06-07 10_13_04 (0 profiles, 0 items, 0 folders, 0 attachments).1p4_zip). If you find other backup files for 1Password, they should have similar names. You won't need to worry about finding a "plist" file, as that's just a preference file, and doesn't contain your data.

If you can find other backup files for 1Password, copy them to your Mac from the backup drive. You can choose to restore from a backup file when setting up the 1Password app.

Before you erased your Mac, had you been using one of the sync options in 1Password, such as iCloud or Dropbox sync? If so, your data should still be in iCloud or Dropbox, and you can choose to sync that data during the setup of 1Password. Do you use 1Password on any other devices, or just on that one Mac?

Please let us know how it goes, and if you have questions about any of that. Thanks!

Thank you very much, I found the missing Library folder that has my real 1Password backups and license plus a lot more! I have also upgraded to 5, so my license was also recognized.
