Show character number over a password

When I shop online, I am forced by my credit card provider to use a service such as Verified By VISA. I am asked to enter 3 random characters from my password ... so in 1Password (on Mac), I need to use reveal and then try to count through the password to identify the specific characters needed, this is a real pain, especially when I have a long password.

It would be very cool to have a small enhancement made to 1Password that shows a character count above the password -- can this be done ? Even better, a feature that allows the selection of specific characters from a password for a copy/paste operation.

Often asked for. Not yet done, so presumably harder than it seems.

I keep a copy of my password in the Notes section, divided into blocks of five, abcde fghij klmno, which makes it easy to count characters.

    Hi @djp15,

It is a popular request, one that is still open and one we know many of our users would appreciate. Like yourself I have the Verified by Visa and 3D-Secure is what I think MasterCard call theirs. Until we come up with whatever our solution will be there are a couple of workarounds to try and make it a little easier. These aren't solutions, they are just ways to work with the existing 1Password and still achieve something a bit easier.

MrC posts his approach and I have a post under his based on another user's suggestion (like danco's approach) and a small improvement that I find useful. Mine does require revealing two passwords which you might find unwieldy but it means that the spacing works out. Should I really need numbers above grouped characters? probably not but it works for me.

I have added your vote to the existing request and hopefully one day we'll come up with something more elegant.
