All attachments show filenames but have no content (i.e. missing)
I moved over to a new laptop and installed 1P from the AppStore. After starting it and telling it my old data was in iCloud it processed this and shows all my entries. However, every entry that had a file or two associated with it (like email or pdf files with software license codes) shows the file name in the list of associated files but when I try to view or drag it out of the entry to the desktop it shows as being a size of 0 bytes (empty).
I tried to export all the entries to your .pif file and it created a folder with a subfolder called attachements that also contains files of 0 length.
On the older laptop I'm replacing, the files as also missing. On my iPad it shows the files just fine.
Where's my data on the Mac? These files are important and I can't find them now.
thx, Art

Hi @FlyboyArt,
I see from our records you've been a longtime 1Password user. We did have a couple of bugs relating to OPVault (used for the old iCloud) and attachments so my first hunch is you've been bitten by this obnoxious bug.
Now with your older laptop, the one you're replacing. Given it is also showing files of size 0KB I'm guessing this wasn't the very first Mac that you used 1Password on or at some point you've had to go through the starting over process and loaded the vault from iCloud. Does that sound possible at all? It would explain why both have zero byte files as if the files had been attached to items in this exact copy of 1Password the files should have been intact.
It might be easiest way forward is to use the iPad given you say the files are intact there.
- You'll first want to Create a manual backup in 1Password for iOS.
- The folder you save to your your Mac will contain a file inside it that ends in
.1p4_zip
. Copy that file to your new MacBook if step 1. wasn't don't there. - Launch 1Password and enter 1Password's preferences.
- Switch to the Backup tab and click on the Find Backup button.
- Select the iOS backup file, the one that ends
.1p4_zip
and click on the Add Backup button. - You will be returned to the Preference's window and the iOS backup will be in in the list.
- You will need to select the backup you just added. It should be the only backup with today's date.
- Follow 1Password's directions and it will shut down as part of the restore process. When you launch it again it will be using the iOS backup.
- In the search field in the Item List pane there is a small caret next to the magnifying glass, clicking on that will reveal some search options, one of which is Items with Attachments (see the image below). Clicking on that option will filter the list to those with attachments. Can the attachments in this backup be opened? If it works on the iPad then they should.
- All going well we now need to replace the sync data in iCloud with fresh data. Use the menu option Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data and follow 1Password's directions for deleting the current sync data.
- Just for good measure also use the menu option Help > Tools > Optimise Database.
- Enter 1Password's preferences once again and enable iCloud Sync as it will be disabled as part of the restoration of a backup (it's a safety measure).
- With this new sync data attachments should now push to all copies of 1Password. You may need to re-enable iCloud Sync elsewhere but 1Password will tell you if it has disabled it.
(How to bring up the search options menu)
Hopefully all of that will get you up and running again. Obviously if at the end of step 9. the attachments are still 0KB then steps 10-13 won't help at all. It should work though given what you've said about the iPad. Please do let us know how you get along.

Seemed to work fine. I can now see the attachments on my Mac and the Mac synch screen shows everything has finished synching to iCloud. I re-enabled Cloud synch on the iPad and it synched there as well. Only the iPhone left to go... Thanks for the quick and accurate support on this issue. I was worried all my data was gone!

and thank you for reporting that everything is good once more @FlyboyArt  I'm glad we could help make sure nothing was lost. Now it shouldn't happen again as the bug was eliminated so you shouldn't have to fear it happening again
