1Password only doing part of sign in
Hello,
I am new to this forum and I have a question.
On some sites 1Password completes all of the required fields perfectly like on Amazon but others like Gmail it only does one field. . . ie, the email address then I have to redo it to get the password filled in.
is there something I can do
edit. . . sorry I forgot to mention I have 1password4 version 4.4.3

Hi @nonothing,
Are you being asked for your Gmail username on one page, then asked for your password on the next page? Google recently started doing this with their login pages. Because you need to fill data on 2 different pages, you'll need to invoke the 1Password extension twice (once on each page where you need to fill something). We have more information about multi-page Login items in this knowledgebase article.
Does that help to answer your question? If I misunderstood or if you need anything else, please let us know. :)

Hi,
You are spot on but I am having a bit of trouble following the steps in the post you linked and will have another go tomorrow.
Many thanks

Hi @nonothing,
If you already have a Login item for Gmail, you may not necessarily need to follow those steps. Try going to the Gmail site, use the extension to fill your username, and on the next page when it asks for your password, use the 1Password extension again to fill that. For example:
- Open the Gmail site in your browser.
- Press ⌘\ to have 1Password fill your username.
- On the next page, press ⌘\ again to have 1Password fill your password.
If the 1Password extension isn't able to fill one of those fields, then you can follow the steps to create a new Login item in that knowledgebase article. I hope that helps, but let us know if you have more questions about that.

Hi,
I couldn't get on with the first part of the KB article so went to the second and am now using two 1Password entries, one for the user name and one for the password.
It will have to do for the time being or until Google change the authentication method.
Again many thanks its a great site.0 -
Hi @nonothing,
If you're struggling with the multi-page login guide then this might help.
Try creating what I call a basic Login item, that's where you create it not from within the browser but the main 1Password window. I've just tried this in 1Password 4 and it works fine for me. I set the website field to the URL https://accounts.google.com and it had no issues filling in both the username on the first page and then the password on the second.
Hopefully you find that easier and enjoy the same success I just had

Hi,
I am starting to wonder if it's me, the only system I can get to work is this. . .
"Repeat the steps above. But this time, save a new entry in 1Password for each page in the sequence instead of updating the original one. Use a naming scheme that will help you keep all the entries organized while make it clear which one is associated with which page: e.g. call the Login for the first page “BoA – username” and the one for the second page “BoA – password”. When you want to log in to the site, trigger the appropriate entry for each page in login sequence"
I follow all the steps and what should appear on the screen does but it wont work.
Does it matter whether the item is listed in the 1Password main window as a "login" or a "password"?

@nonothing: Yes!
A "Password" item is just a saved generated password. Essentially they're there as a failsafe, in case you have trouble saving the login.
A "Login" item, on the other hand, includes the username and password, the URL to go to to fill them, and other information about the actual form to facilitate that process. So this is the one you want 99% of the time.
A good place to start is to manually save a Login item , and then the tips Drew_AG offered above can help when it comes to multi-page logins specifically. I hope this helps! :)

Thanks to everyone who has posted.
At the moment I am using the system I posted above, it's the only way for the Google site that I can make work.0 -
It's strange given we've found more than one way that should work. If you've found something that works for you though @nonothing and you're reasonably happy with it that's fine but if you'd like us to try and continue working with you to figure this out that's something we will do.

I am not sure, maybe I am not reading the instructions properly.
What I have at the moment are two entries for Google, one is named Google ( for the email address) the second is named Google Pass.
So i need to control click to get to 1Password twice, once for each page, then trigger the two entries.I am more than happy for you guys to try something else but I am worried about you doing all the work and me not entering the info correctly.
I am pretty sure I have followed carefully those instructions several times.0 -
Hi @nonothing,
Let's try another approach.
- Do you see the block of text at the bottom of this post? If you select the entire block, everything from
onepassword
to%3D
and paste that into the address bar of an empty tab in Safari or Firefox it should parse the URI and pass it to 1Password. It will ask if you wish to add the Login item via a small confirmation dialog titled Adding Login. - Click the Add button to add the basic Google Login item I created.
- You will need to edit the item to replace where it says username with your gmail address and the dummy password entry with your real password. If needed replace the title with something to help it stand out.
- If you now visit [https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin] in your browser and use
⌘\
it will either automatically attempt to fill the username field with this Login item or show you a selection and you will want to choose this Login item. - If successful it should now require your password. As with step 4 you would use
⌘\
and select the same Login item. With multi-page logins you will need to use the⌘\
fill command more than once but a single Login item should work for both pages, at least with Google anyway.
Now if you're still having trouble can you describe as best you can at what step it seems to go wrong and what you're seeing as a result. Hopefully we can discover what the blip is
