Bug: 1Password dimisses Chrome's HTTP authentication dialog

When I visit a website that performs authentication using HTTP authentication - which results in the browser showing a dialog to ask for a password, seems to always result in 1Password dismissing the dialog. There is no opportunity to choose if I want 1Password to fill that dialog. It just gets dismissed.

Not being able to enter the password results in these web pages giving me the access denied page or taking me to the page that asks me to reset the password from a web UI.

If 1Password happens to remember the password that was entered in that browser based dialog there is no way to change that password from the browser - similar to how 1Password is able to detect if I enter a new credentials in a authentication form for which it already has credentials.

This needs fixing urgently. 1Password, while incredibly useful, is interfering with the basic browser experience in a way that it is obstructive.

    Hi @nodeless,

Unfortunately we currently can't interact with basic http auth windows. The 1Password Browser extension currently only manipulates the DOM of the page via the relevant frameworks. As there isn't a standard API call for interacting with basic http auth windows we're limited in what we can do. We have a couple of possibilities that are being considered as it seems unlikely that all of the supported browsers will adopt something we can use. I shall make a note of your post though to see this done.

Obviously it's not what you wanted to hear but it may help explain why 1Password seems to be doing such a bad job. If anything is being remembered it will be by the browser and it's also why we can't update a Login item if you change your password for one of the sites that use this authentication approach.

@littlebobbytables I am okay if 1Password is not able to fill that dialog's fields but 1Password seems to be dismissing the dialog. I don't face the issue in incognito mode (where 1Password does not run). That is the primary issue here, not that 1Password's functionality is not available in that scenario.

1Password dismisses HTTP auth dialogs this is what needs fixing.

    Hi @nodeless,

I'm not sure how 1Password would be dismissing that dialog. Can you please elaborate on the steps you take leading up to the dialog being dismissed? Are you manually typing the URL in your browser, then clicking a "sign in" link or something similar on the site? If so, what exactly do you do once the dialog appears? Please walk us through it. The more information you can give us the better and more quickly we'll be able to assist you. And if possible, it would be a huge help if you're able to let us know the URL of the site you're having trouble with, so we can test that ourselves. Thanks!

@Drew_AG The issue seems to have disappeared. I guess it may have been an issue with chrome. Or one of the other extensions that I have.

Thanks for your answers and support.

    Hi @nodeless,

Thank you for reporting back and do please post here in this thread if the issue returns and it seems like 1Password is involved. We'll do our best to help figure out what's going on.
