Syncing across 4 different platforms

Sorry about using the Mac forum / section but we are not only MAC users
My wife and I use a mac desktop, MacBook Pro, windows laptop, a windows desktop an iphone, and an Andriod device.

As a non techo geek what package / packages / licenses do I have to purchase and how do we sync the 1password amongst all of these devices.

Additionally we RV so we would need to have access to all of these passwords while on the road and will need them to be secure as the public wifi network is so insecure. I am guessing that I will have to purchase a license for each platform that we use, is this correct?

The next question,:
Is the licensing per annum or is it a one time license ?

Thank you

    You are pretty much correct.

However there is a bundle price for Mac + Windows, and it covers all your Macs and Windows machines. iPhone and Android versions are free, but with an in-app purchase giving extra features. You only have one iPhone and Android device, so the issue around in-app purchases for more than one person does not arise.

The cost is a one-time cost, provided that the version of 1PW you are using works on the operating system you use. A major upgrade of 1PW may or may not require an upgrade payment (1PW3 Mac to 1PW4 was paid, 1PW4 to 5 was free). A new operating system might render an old version unusable, but, for instance, 1PW3 for Mac still works on Mac Os Yosemite, though has some weaknesses.

Your data is stored locally unless you choose to sync. Best security on the RV would probably be to disable sync. I would also use a VPN program for added internet security (Cloak and Hotspot Shield are ones I have tried, and seem fine, but there are others).

In your situation, best syncing is probably to set up Dropbox sync. https://support.1password.com/sync-options/ gets you to the knowledgebase.

    Hi @Gavin_Slabbert,

It looks like danco has you pretty well covered. If you have any further questions do please ask.

Just a couple of extra bits worth noting.

    • 1Password for iOS uses the freemium model. If you don't need the extra features included in the Pro in-app purchase then 1Password for iOS is completely free.
    • 1Password for Android uses a trial mode, much like 1Password for Mac and Windows. I believe it reverts to a read-only mode after that. So in a way that one will probably feel a little less optional.
    • As I've just mentioned, you can try 1Password for Mac and Windows for 30 days in a trial to see what you think before committing. Your best option would be the bundle from our store and as danco covered, you're free to run those versions for as long as they're compatible with your machines.
    • While the public Wi-Fi might be insecure, don't forget that the likes of Dropbox runs over an SSL connection meaning that connection is encrypted. The data stored in Dropbox is also encrypted as all sync data is never transmitted or stored in an unencrypted state. Still, a VPN would add extra peace of mind for all of your networking requirements if you're at all concerned.
