Web Form Details

This is my first experience with this forum. I have a banking site which has 2 types of password - a 4 digit PIN and a longer character password (only 12 characters unfortunately). This is not operating properly with 1PW. I would like to learn more about how 1PW gets the fields from the web page to include under the item and how I can customise these fields to make the item work for 'badly behaved' web pages. I cannot find any good documentation on this aspect of 1PW. Further to this understanding, it looks as though there are 17 or so item types with different default fields. Can these be regarded as templates for the particular item and, in fact, any types could be used for any purpose as long as one is prepared to include the appropriate fields.

It might be simpler to deal with sites like those by saving a login manually. Directions are here.

I'm not trying to deflect your questions. I expect someone with more knowledge will be along, but I thought this practical approach might benefit you.

    Hi @paddyd,

While there is some minor editing of the web form details possible, we would strongly urge you to consider following our guide, How to manually save a Login as hawkmoth suggests. Using this route means the extension and 1Password mini inspect the page and record all the fields that you've entered data. Whilst you can see the name of the field in the web form details section the ID for the field is stored but invisible, even when editing and the ID is important in 1Password's behaviour.

Even if some minor editing of the web form details is required after a manually saved Login this would likely be a lot easier than creating anything from scratch. The goal of course is that the user doesn't need to muck about with the web form details at all so there is unlikely to be any documentation good or bad given there are plenty of areas that still need love from our docs team.

This may not have answered all of your questions and may indeed have raised a few more. If I've let a question slip by at all please do post back and we'll do our best to reply

thanks @littlebobbytables. Not much is working for me in 1PW. I followed the instructions you attached and the item which is saved only contains the user id/account number and the larger password NOT the short security code (as they call it). I tried this more than once. In addition the item I save in mini 1PW is not reflected in the main 1PW when I invoke it. Also I wanted to clean up all the duplicate items I had created for this one login but there are a couple that I can't delete. So I had to try using a different name. A very frustrating product.

    Hi @paddyd,

To better assist with this particular site I think we'll need to take a look ourselves. How would you feel about supplying the URL for the main login page?

The other issues are more troubling. Now in 1Password 3 it was possible to have an item only in the extension but that isn't possible in 1Password 4/5, not unless you're running both versions of 1Password for Mac, the AgileBits Store and Mac App Store versions and they're causing confusion. If you only have a single copy of 1Password for Mac though there would be only one vault and both the browser extension and the main window interact with 1Password mini meaning a single access point.

I'm also concerned that you cannot delete an item in your vault. I've never come across that before and I can't think of any reason why a particular item couldn't be deleted. It might not make any difference at all but rebooting your Mac might not be a bad idea if you're seeing inconsistent behaviour. If this still happens even after a reboot then it can't be good. If it is still happening can you describe please what happens step by step when you try using cmd+backspace with the item you want deleted selected in the Item List pane. The item should be moved to the Trash immediately without confirmation.

Thanks again @littlebobbytables. I thought about this in the few hours since posting trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I definitely cannot delete these items. A cmd+backspace just sounds a high-pitched click sound and a RH mouse click doesn't produce a Delete option - by design I assume - and I can't see a delete object anywhere.

The main 1PW app isn't showing the new item created in the extension yet but I have a lot of upload activity happening and I should wait until this is complete. I will also check Drop box syncing as well. I didn't think that both the main and mini apps on the same hardware would need to sync - but I may be mistaken. Below I have pasted the main app About details. I did have problems in the early days of using 1PW because of dual versions (switching from Agilebits to MAS) but Marshall assisted with this and I thought that all was resolved.

One mistake was that I wasn't looking in web form details for the other security field - expecting it to be up with the 'primary' fields - my inexperience. So, the web form details repeats the user and password fields and adds an additional 2 - one being the additional security field. However the value recorded in 1PW is different to what was on the web page and what I know I entered.

I will re-boot soon but it is not long since I was forced to re-boot. Also, perhaps we should take this off-line, if possible.

It may very well be worth checking a diagnostic report out @paddyd and that would mean moving to email.

I would like you to create the following Diagnostic Report please. This guide will assist.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums

The email address you will want to use is support+forum@agilebits.com

When sending the diagnostic report to the address above it would help immensely if you could include a link to this thread and your forum handle so we can connect the two.

Once you've sent the report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. With access to the report we should be able to better assist you
