1Password disappeared - and now wants me to re-purchase

I don't understand what happened, but 1Password disappeared from my iMac, including the helpful menu icon. It left behind a folder or two, but the app is gone. I thought it would be easy to re-download and install, but the App Store wants to charge me nearly $50 to do it. I've owned 1Password almost since it was launched - and it's working fine on my iPhone and iPad. So how can I get it back without being re-charged?

    Hi @Chapps,

    The first thing we need to do is learn where you purchased 1Password for Mac from. We sell it from both our own AgileBits Store and Apple's Mac App Store and while they're essentially the same, due to how the differing licensing systems work we will want to guide you through downloading it from the same location.

    I did check our records but I couldn't find a purchase made using the same email address as you're using here in our forums, that can mean one of two possibilities.

    1. You purchased 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store. If you had it should appear in the Purchases tab of the App Store application on your Mac. If you're sure you purchased the Mac App Store version but it doesn't appear in the Purchases tab then it might be worth checking to see if the purchase had been accidentally hidden.     2. It is also possible you purchased the AgileBits Store version but did so using another email address. If you believe you've purchased from us you can retrieve your licence by entering your email address on our AgileBits Support page, it's the I've lost my license... section at the bottom of the page. If you still cannot find your licence you can try emailing us at support+licenses@agilebits.com with your full name as you would have used at the time of purchase and a list of your email addresses which we can then check for you.

    Once we've discovered where you purchased 1Password we can help you download the correct version and get you back on track :smile:

    A couple of points worth noting are, if you have more than one Apple ID it might be you purchased with a different one and that as our licences are per platform a licence for iOS doesn't cover you on a Mac. Now I only mention the latter as some people don't realise but if you've been a 1Password user as long as you say then this misunderstanding seems unlikely. Once we hear back from you we can hopefully start making progress :smile:

    It was in the Purchases tab (it's originally an April, 2012 purchase, although I did also own it at my work under a different email) - and I've re-installed it. I'm not sure why it de-installed in the first place, though. Thanks for the help.

    Hi @Chapps,

    I can't think of a good reason why it should disappear either but at least you've found your purchase and if it was only the actual application that disappeared then you should have found your vault was still there upon downloading of the application. It sounds like everything is running once again so fingers crossed for no more blips :smile:
