Sharing with Wife

Good day. I have read many of the threads but a still somewhat confused. I purchased 1Password from the App store and have been using it happily for a while on my Mac(s) and iPad which are synced via iCloud. I would like to give my wife full access to all information in the vault. I enabled family sharing and downloaded the software on my wifes mac hoping I could sign her in with my login id and password. That does not seem possible.

I downloaded DropBox but discovered that I would have to change the sync from Icloud to DropBox which I am not sure I want to do !

Can anyone help please?

    Hi @ldemercado,

Thanks for contacting us with your question. You're on the right track, but I'll be happy to fill in the gaps and clear up some confusion.

Apple's Family Sharing simply allows you to share purchases, but does not function to share the data that you have stored in the app--that's where sync comes in.

You can use iCloud to sync your data to your wife's computer only if both computers are logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID. iCloud is not designed for sharing the same way that Dropbox is.

Dropbox sync does offer a way to share a vault with another Dropbox user. So it's a personal choice of which option appeals more to you.

Is there any specific reason you'd hesitate to use Dropbox? Generally, Dropbox sync works just as well as iCloud sync, your data will be just as secure, and many of us here at AgileBits prefer Dropbox sync. But again, it's your choice! :)

Thanks for your prompt response. I will give Dropbox a try. Will I have to reconfigure all my IOS devices to SYNC to Dropbox?
Thanks again & have a good day.

    Hi @ldemercado,

If you already have iCloud sync enabled in 1Password on those iOS devices, you would need to disable it, then set up Dropbox sync. But that should actually be really easy! To start, you can follow the steps in this knowledgebase article to switch to Dropbox sync on your Mac.

Then, on each iOS device, you can disable iCloud sync by opening 1Password and going to Settings > Sync > Sync Service > Disable Sync. Then, follow the steps here to set up Dropbox sync.

It should all be pretty straightforward, but if you have questions or run into any trouble, just let us know - we're always happy to help!
