Contribute Dutch translations?

Hi people,

I found some little inconsistencies in the dutch translations. Is there a way contribute the dutch translation?

"Aafdeling" should be: "afdeling"

Ee-mail should be: "e-mail"

Thank you so much for offering to help with the translation! :) Our translations are crowd-sourced, which means they're handled primarily by users like you who volunteer to help, since we don't have native speakers on staff for every language we support. You're more than welcome to contribute to make the translations the best they can be. Hi @Drew_AG, Thanks voor the link. I'm familiar with Crowdin, so I will update the Dutch language during the week. It would be no problem for me to further develop the Dutch language. How do I know which string is which places are used? Is there a way to download the files and overwrite it on my Mac so I can review the result?

Hi @jeffrey,

I don't think we can download files from Crowdin, at least using a standard Crowdin account. I see there is an option to download a file but it's disabled for me along with the possibility of uploading a translation. If you or I could download a file it might be as single as dropping it in as a replacement file over an existing one in the application. That is in theory though given I don't know precisely what is downloaded.

Now trying to identify what part of the UI a particular group of strings relate to can be a bit hit and miss I find, again from the perspective of you or I where we're not elbow deep in the code of 1Password. If I know I'm looking for a particular bad translation I tend to use the find and grep commands to assist me. For example, I know you're looking at the nl.lproj` resource and using find on the 1Password application reveals the following

1Password.app/Contents/Frameworks/OnePasswordDataModel-Mac.framework/Versions/A/Resources/CategoryTemplates/Locales/nl.lproj

Armed with that information I then use grep to discover that the string ee-mail appears in the Identity.strings file in the first of those locations.

Is there a better approach? I kind of hope so and that I'm simply being a bit dumb but that can at least allow you to identify where a bad string is and give you a fighting chance of finding the right file in Crowdin.

Hi @littlebobbytables,

What I did was opening de whole 1Password application directory into JetBrains PhpStorm (code editor) and searching for strings. I was hoping that some of 1password team could help me with setting up the [https://crowdin.com/page/cli-tool](Crowdin Integration Utility). So when I'm finished with local changes, I can push back to Crowdin with the Integration Utility.

Hi @jeffrey,

I'm not sure I can advise you much on this utility. Those of us on the team who assist with translations tend to do so right from within the browser, with no downloading or uploading required. Once you've finished updating the strings, please let us know and we'll inform the developers to get the strings into the app. :)

Hi @Megan,

I've finished updating the strings the same evening as @Drew_AG send me an comment with the link to Crowdin. I've changed al lot more strings by walking trough the 1Password interface. There are also new Dutch suggestions, how does AgileBits deal with this? Can you tell me more about the AgileBits voting flow? And can you tell me more about the general approval flow? For now the Dutch languages is approved voor only 58%.

Hi @jeffrey,

Sorry for the delay in responding. We haven't forgotten about you, it's just most of us here know a lot more about how 1Password works in contrast to Crowdin.

My understanding is the approved percentage is merely a score of how much checked versus unchecked translations there are. Certain people are considered capable of validating or approving translations and we tend to do this in batches I believe. This coincides with when we're preparing to pull down fresh copies of all the translations for a new version. So we'll potentially have a number of beta releases with no improved languages while we test features and then one with new files just to make sure everything went okay.

We might need a dev to explain this more as we on the support side don't have a lot of interaction with Crowdin, especially rubbish people like myself with my single language awareness. My skills are limited to translating to English (UK), not the most in demand shall we say.

If that was a little too light on the details do say and I'll go harass person or persons until we can find somebody that knows more :smile:

Sorry for my delay, was on a lovely holiday. Thank you for answers. Had expected this procedure because I'm also a developer. My underlying question was more if I could help you with approving of the dutch translations. After all, there are no Dutch developers present by 1Password.
