Option to choose UI language, please.
I'd like to have an option to change the UI language of 1Password Mac.
I'm running the app on Japanese locale Mac and 1Password is automatically displayed in Japanese, but I definitely prefer English because current Japanese localization is half-baked and makes the UI hard to understand sometimes. I say half-baked because many items are either left in English or given inappropriate mistranslations, which make the app look quite unpolished and unprofessional.
I've been using 1Password Windows and it has "Language" option, so please add it to Mac version ASAP. I'll appreciate your consideration.
BTW, I had serious trouble migrating Windows/iOS vault data to Mac, but that's another story so probably I'll open up a separate topic.

I can certainly pass on your request although I suspect those above me would rather see we do a better job of the Japanese translation rather than add a menu option. I don't know if it has changed in Windows 8 or 10 but I've found that OS X's support of localisation is massively better than Windows. Not that long ago I was trying to help a friend with Windows machine localised in Polish only to discover that not every version of Windows supports changing languages. I suspect this is why we offer it as a menu option in 1Password for Windows rather than working with the operating system like we do in OS X (where I can flip languages in moments and require at most a reboot for some of the system strings).
Now that's just my thoughts. I could end up being quite wrong and my role is to make sure I pass your comments on. I see we have an existing feature request for this and I shall add your words as a vote to see this happen :smile:

Thing is, I don't want to turn entire OS X into English; I just want 1Password to be displayed in English.
Regarding the localization quality, I see similar comments about inferior translation of 1Password on Japanese community here and there, so I think I'm not the only person who feels that way.
Because my profession is product and marketing localization, I know how it's difficult to ensure app localization quality especially in double-byte languages which have radically different linguistic characteristics from European languages. Judging from the current localization quality of 1Password, I believe you definitely need to consult someone/some company who/which is specialized in app localization.
If you are in need of my expertise, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to help your company, because 1Password is indispensable part of my digital life and I want it to be perfect. I have extensive knowledge and experience in localization of enterprise and consumer applications running on Windows, Mac, and mobile OS.
However, the easiest workaround for your company is just adding an option to change app's locale...

@kaatan: Thanks for following up! We try to follow Apple's lead here (and the rest of the Mac and iOS community) and change the localization according to the system setting. This helps avoid confusion, but we can certainly consider adding an independent language switch as well.
However, it sounds like you'd be happy to use the Japanese localization if it were simply better! I remember not too long ago we didn't have any localization in 1Password for Mac. And while it's good to have that now, there is definitely room for improvement!
With that in mind, perhaps you'd consider lending some of your expertise to the translation! 1Password translations are crowdsourced, and since none of us are native Japanese speakers the community has contributed greatly to get 1Password localization this far along. If you'd like to contribute, check out the Crowdin project for 1Password which covers both iOS and OS X. Even if there's a simple correction that needs to be made, every bit helps. Cheers! :)

I'm sorry to say this, but judging from my decades of experience, cloud sourcing rarely achieve quality localization, at least for Japanese. I know it's a tempting idea to have your product localized for free, but reality is, you need a professional expertise in order to obtain professional quality which befits commercial security product like 1Password.
I witnessed tons of companies and products ended up with horrible localizations as a result of cloud sourcing, and that's why one of the most famous cloud service companies gave up cloud sourcing and now outsourcing entire Japanese localization to me.
So, now that Japanese localization of 1Password is unlikely to be improved, I'm looking forward to the language switch option to be implemented soon.... :|

As for a language switch option, I wanted to clarify that we can't make any promises about if/when that will happen. We do have an open request for that feature, and your own request has been added to that - but we receive a lot of feature requests and aren't able to add all of them. That doesn't necessarily mean we won't add this one, but we just can't make any promises about it at this point.
I thought of something else that might help you with this - there are tools that allow you to change the language of individual apps, so you don't have to change the whole system language. A couple apps that I've heard about from other customers are Language Switcher and LinguaSwitch. I haven't personally tried either of those, but have seen them suggested by other users, so you might want to check them out, as it seems like they would be useful for you.

@kaatan: よろしくおねがいします。Thank you for your candor! Even in my limited studies of the Japanese language and culture, I can tell that the differences are vast indeed compared to other (primarily roman-alphabet) languages. And I'm certain that you have an insight far beyond my own in this regard.
Localization of our apps is still relatively new for us, so (as you rightly point out) we have a long way to go yet when it comes to getting it right. While we do not currently have the resources to do Japanese (and all other languages) true justice, I do hope that in the future we'll be able to dedicate ourselves more fully to offering translations that reflect the respect we have for each of our awesome customers (such as yourself!) and their native languages. I apologize that we have not achieved that (yet). ありがとうございます。
