Last Two Updates Deleted Either Username and/or Password, or just fills in one of the two (or three)

Hi there,
MacUser, same issue occurs whether on Safari or 1browser. Since the last update (and maybe the one previous), a lot (approx half of the time) when I try to use 1password, it only fills in one of the two (or three) fields. When I open the 1password app, those fields are no longer saved. These are passwords that I have saved and used for months, yet no longer work as opposed to a password that I saved wrong etc. Same with some multi (three field) logins. Now just have saved either the username or one of the password fields, not both despite working properly for months until the recent updates. I'd hazard a guess that this has ruined roughly 2/3 of my logins.

I'm current on safari, Yosemite and using 1Password Version 5.3 (530029) Mac App Store

Any suggestions ?

Jeremy

@cheekyjeremy: It sounds like you may be syncing your 1Password data via Dropbox with an older Mac running an old version of 1Password. Is that the case?

If so, making changes and then going back and forth will result in 'missing' information (it's still there, though!) because the old version does not know about the newer sections supported by the latest versions of 1Password.

Which OS, 1Password, and device versions are you syncing with Dropbox? Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

Not too sure really. The items I have (and had) syncing are a 2013 Macbook Air (current on software as per original note). That's the machine that I noticed the issues with first. I just purchased a 2015 Macbook 12" to replace the Macbook Air and the issue continued to the new machine. I also have the iOS version on my iPhone 6+ and (had) on a since wiped and sold iPad Air 2. I now only use the new Macbook and the iPhone 6+. The problem remains across both devices - thanks in advance

    Hi @cheekyjeremy,

I've moved your query to our Mac section as it doesn't seem to be specifically about filling. For us filling issues are when 1Password has the correct information but it doesn't interact with the webpage correctly whereas you're reporting that data has completely disappeared from your items - a more stressful issue by some margin.

It sounds like you've managed to identify a few Login items displaying these issues. The first thing I would like you to confirm is that the data is indeed missing. It sounds like an odd thing to request but we don't stress the web form details section of a Login item much unless it's important so there are those users that aren't aware of it. When you fill a webpage using a Login item it's actually using the data in the web form details section. So can you revisit the selection of known trouble items please and click on the show web form details button and see if it's the case that the information has truly gone or if the data is present but the page is not filling properly.

If the data is still present then one piece of good news is the data is still present. If you find a Login that fits this case it might be worth trying to create a new Login item using our How to manually save a Login guide and seeing if a new Login item behaves any better.

If the data is truly gone (and you may have already checked the web form details section, but it's best to confirm) then it might be inspecting a backup might be the way to go. In very broad steps, you'd need to check backups in turn until you found one that still contains the missing data. At that point there are a couple of options. One is to jump back to the newest backup, order your items by date modified and then export everything since the backup you intend to revert to that represents genuine changes you've made and import those changes after restoring the good backup. Now that will need covered in more detail if that turns out to be the best option and we'll do so if it comes to that.

So please do let us know if the web form details holds any hope. If it doesn't we'll look into using backups.
