    Hi @rgonzalezmoro,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with 1Password! In addition to the information Stephen asked for, can you please clarify the exact problem? I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what you mean. Are you saying that your master password no longer works to unlock 1Password on any of your Macs or iOS devices? Please walk us through exactly what you're experiencing on your end. The more information you can give us the better and more quickly we'll be able to assist you. Thanks in advance!

    Hi

    • MacBook Air and Imac 21" (middle 2010)
      OSX 10.10.3 - 1Password 51. (510027)

    • iPhone 5s and iPad Air (no jailbreack)
IOS 8.3 - I don't know how test the release of 1Password but I am sure is the last because I always upgrade it when a notice appears in AppStore

The method to sync is wifi but not all the devices are synchroniced in this moment.

The master password is the same that two years ago. It contains alphanumeric characters (letters anda numbers, no special chars like %&$)

When I type the master password all the devices say "try it again". I had try it about 40 or 50 times, I am sure I am typing the correct password and I am using lowercase

I suspect problems with IOS/OSX upgrade because the problem occurs in all devices and I only sync iPhone + MacBook Air and then MacBook Air with iPad. iMac 21" is not synchroniced and the message "try it again" appears also

I don't suspect problems with malware. I use de devices for job, email, online banking, news. I am not use they looking for cracks, serials,
    pornography .....

I am very very very worried because 1Password contains "all my live": email accounts, bank information, credentials to logon in sites related to my job, credit cards .........

I will try restore a backup of 1Password form Time Machine utility

    Thanks in advanced and regards

Take a look at this knowledge base article:

My Master Password is not being accepted. What should I do?

I'm not sure if it will help but it's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Keep calm, in that context: it's really rather unlikely that you're affected by that. If you're worried about it, please have a look at this thread in the Lounge. Probably a good place to start in that long thread is the post to which I've linked.

    Hi,

I also was not able to unlock 1Password using my Master Password this evening on any of my devices (iMac, iPad, iPhone). It worked yesterday.

    I solved the problem by:

    1) Made sure I had a current Time Machine backup
    a. Clicked on Time Machine icon (clock with counterclockwise arrow) on right of main menu at top of the screen.
    b. Chose Back Up Now from Time Machine dropdown menu.
    c. Waited for backup to complete.
    d. Click the Time Machine icon and note the time of the latest backup.

    2) Restored an earlier version of my 1Password folder to DropBox using Time Machine.
    a. Clicked on Dropbox icon toward right on main menu.
    b. Clicked on dark folder icon at the top left of window to open DropBox folder in Finder window.
    c. Launched Time Machine by clicking on Time Machine icon on main menu, then Enter Time Machine.
    d. Waited briefly for versions to load.
    e. Clicked on arrow to go to a back up from yesterday.
    f. Clicked on the 1Password folder.
    g. Clicked Restore at the bottom right.
    h. Picked "Replace" from the dialog box (item by same name already exists).

    3) Launched 1Password and unlocked it using my Master Password.

    4) Quit 1Password.

    5) Restored the current version of my 1Password folder, following steps in (2) using the version of the 1Password folder from the backup with the time of the latest backup from (1)d.

-> Now I could successfully unlock the current version of my 1Password vaults. Yay!

    My set up:
    1) iMac (20-inch, Early 2009) running Mac OS 10.10.3 and 1Password 5.3 (530029).
    2) iPad Air running iOS 8.3 and 1Password 5.4.2.
    3) iPhone 5 (MD638LL/A) running iOS 8.3 and 1Password 5.4.2.

I sync one vault via iCloud and two others via Dropbox.

    Hi @nJFcRYj98CRDbYEqYN,

Can I ask a couple of questions of you please.

    1. You only used Time Machine on the following folder, is this correct? ~/Dropbox/1Password/
    2. You have three vaults in 1Password, and you're syncing your primary vault to iCloud and your two secondary vaults to Dropbox, is that correct? You can confirm this in the Sync tab of 1Password's preferences on your iMac.

    Hi littlebobbytables,

    1. You are correct. I only restored this folder: ~/Dropbox/1Password/

    2. Correct. My primary vault is synced to iCloud and two secondary vaults sync to Dropbox.

I just had to repeat this procedure again this evening. Ugh!

    Hi @nJFcRYj98CRDbYEqYN,

Here's what's confusing me and why I asked.

Your Master Password, the one that unlocks all of your vaults is the Master Password for your primary vault. What actually happens is your Master Password decrypts a set of encryption keys and those unlock the contents of your vault. These encryption keys, the ones safeguarded by your Master Password are stored in the SQLite database file locally stored on your machine and also in the sync data - without the keys you could never unlock the vault on another device.

Replacing the Dropbox folder where you only store the secondary vaults should have zero impact on your primary vault. Part of the reason is your primary vault's encryption keys aren't in Dropbox and also no synchronisation with Dropbox or iCloud can occur until you've unlocked your vault locally. It's the first thing that happens once your encryption keys have been decrypted but it can't happen until the correct Master Password has been supplied.

As you can imagine, knowing this I am extremely puzzled by what you are experiencing.

I realise it's going to sound bad but how confident are you that it's not a typo. I see from your first post you say it affected two iOS devices and a Mac but the above applies equally to iOS as well as OS X - both behave in the same way.

Here is what I would suggest.

    1. Launch 1Password for Mac and enter 1Password's preferences.
    2. Switch to the Backup tab and click on the Backup Now button.
    3. Try restoring an earlier backup by selecting one from the list and clicking on the now enabled Restore button. Follow the instructions and 1Password will quit to complete the restoration of the backup. Please note this will disable all syncing as part of the restoration process.
    4. Type your Master Password temporarily into something like TextEdit and try copying and pasting the Master Password into 1Password. It should work first time.
    5. Restore the backup you created in step 2.
    6. Does pasting the same Master Password work into the now restored vault work just as well as it did with the backup? You would expect it to.
    7. Re-enable syncing for all three vaults by switching to the Sync tab in 1Password's preferences and pointing 1Password to the correct locations. It will use the word merge but don't worry, it's simply re-connecting to the sync data it was already using.

This by itself isn't revealing much but should you return to the point where you find you can't access your vault then I would first try typing your Master Password out again to confirm it's correct and see what happens if you copy and paste. If that isn't working does backing up your current vault (like above) and restoring a backup you know for absolutely certain works make a difference, still using copy and paste.

Clearly something very odd is going on but trying to pin down exactly what is always very difficult with Master Passwords.
