I'm reading through tons of online documentation and I can't figure out if 1Password will do things like open OS X System Preference panes (the ones that lock), or remember server logins, etc. It seems it only opens web pages. Please advise!.

In essence, 1P for Mac will work directly only through a browser. (By "directly" I mean without you having to copy and paste details from 1P.) OS X does not currently have the same architecture that allows 1P for iOS to be integrated directly into apps that incorporate the relevant code.

The direct answer to your question is that you can use 1P for Mac for the purposes you mention but it will involve copying and pasting relevant details from 1P into the app with which you are working.

    Hi @davemreed,

It seems Stephen_C has answered all of your questions but should you have any others please do ask away

We do have a request for an Auto-Type like feature on the Mac so I'll add your query as a request for it.

    Hi Little,
Thank you for the follow up.
I see now that 1Password is primarily a password keeper with high functionality on browser activity.
While I had hoped that it would both remember and input credentials in a wider variety of interfaces, I've adjusted my expectations.
I've always been happy with my password protected PDF, but our CEO has asked me to explore 1P and others as a solution for sharing and maintaining the keys to the kingdom (servers, client systems, applications and OS credentials).

    Regards,
    Dave

Hopefully you still find 1Password a competent password manager @davemreed. While I and many others would love to see something like Auto-Type I'm sure your doing the right thing by evaluating what we can do for you now rather than possibly in the future. I'd hope we have some advantages over an encrypted PDF  but it's always up to each individual to make that assessment for themselves.

If you have any other questions we can answer please do ask!
