Note for a login gets cut off

I had some notes for a login (a credit card account). In PasswordWallet the notes field would scroll. But in 1Password the size of the notes box seems to be fixed, and there is no scroll, so I can't read the whole note.

Is there a way to make it scroll?

Where are you trying to read the note: in the main app or in 1P mini?

Hi @douglerner,

The notes field in each item should adjust so you can see the entire note. If the note is longer than what you can see in the item details, you would just need to scroll down in the details area to see the rest. It seems to work correctly for me in both the main app and 1Password mini. Is this a problem with just one Login item in 1Password, or are you finding that problem in other items as well?

If you find that item in 1Password and click the Edit button, are you able to see the rest of the information you expect in the notes field? If not, and if the item was imported from another password manager, it sounds like maybe the problem is that only part of the notes field was imported.

Hi Drew,

I just checked all 131 logins now and it seems ok this morning. There is no scroll, but the notes area is currently self-adjusting to fit the entire note, except in one case. In that one case just 1/2 the last line is visible because it is cut. There was nothing confidential at the bottom, so I've attached a screenshot.

I'm glad it's working better today! Thank you for the screenshot of the notes field that seems to be cutting off the last line. That certainly seems to be some sort of UI glitch, although I'm not able to reproduce the same problem on my end. Is the notes field in that item longer than the notes fields in your other items? Are the other notes fields in the same language? I'm trying to figure out anything that would make that item different than your others.

If you click the Edit button for that item, are you able to see that last line of text?

That notes field is not longer than the notes fields in other items. In fact, I copy pasted that note from another login and the same note appears ok in the other login.

To work around the problem for now I added a line below it

-end-

Now I can see the previous cut off line ok. But the "-end-" line does not appear - it gets cut off.

When editing I am also not able to see the cut off parts.

Thanks for getting back to us with those details. I've done some testing here as well, and I'm not able to re-create this either, so I'm wondering if it might be a problem specific to that one item.

If you re-create the credit card entry, does the notes field behave correctly in the new entry?

If I create a new login (default name Login) and copy/pasted the cut-off note into the "notes" section of the new login it is also cut off in that login.

I also tried pasting the contents in BBEdit first (to remove any potential formatting characters) and then copy/pasted from BBEdit into "notes" but it was the same result.

Hi @douglerner,

I did have to take a guess and I'm using the Cangjie keyboard layout. With a bit of mucking about though I can reliably have the last line cut off in 1Password for Mac with a very small amount of text. It's odd, I started off with a much longer Note (just me bashing away at the keyboard) and that was working but with a few alterations can now reproduce with a much smaller one. This Note will cut off the final line for me, I'm thinking it will for you too.

I'm guess what you entered is simplified Chinese? I can't read Chinese. I can read Japanese. Just from the similarity of the character stems though it looks like day, door, tree, field, water, field, water, hand.

It's true, despite my possibly unusual avatar and forum handle I am genuinely a member of the AgileBits team. Your bug has been reported and it's reference is OPM-3173, which we add to the bottom of a post so other team members from AgileBits can easily find the associated report. I can't say when it will be addressed but we now have a permanent record that we need to improve rendering with certain character sets.
