unable to download & sync on new macbook air
I have a new MacBook Air running Yosemite and transferred my user profile to it. I downloaded the latest version of 1Password. I want to use my original license key to register & sync it. I do not have Dropbox as back up. I would like to be able to sync it with my other apple devices via iCloud which already run 1password. I followed instructions to download my license which seemed successful, but I can't open the application after downloading. I am given the option to navigate to a folder in my computer choose a file, which I have done. But the application won't open. I did not download the original app from iTunes, I downloaded it from Agilebits. How do I get my 1Password account on my new macbook air & be able to sync with my other devices?
1Password Version: 1password4
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: OS X 10.10.1
Sync Type: iCloud

A few questions if you don't mind:
I am given the option to navigate to a folder in my computer choose a file, which I have done.
Are you referring to your license file or the 1Password app?
I did not download the original app from iTunes, I downloaded it from Agilebits.
Where did you download 1Password from for your new MacBook Air?

Hi @JennyG,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting 1Password set up on your new Mac!
Could you tell me a little bit more about where things are getting tangled up? In particular, I'd like some more detail on 'the application won't open'. I know, it seems like that statement should be pretty self-explanatory, but I'm wondering - are you seeing an error message? Does 1Password start to open and then crash? Does 1Password simply refuse to load up? Are you unable to unlock 1Password with your Master Password?
The more information you can provide, the more quickly we'll be able to get you sorted out.

HI Megan,
On my iMac i have 1password 4 running. I have followed the directions for syncing using the link downloaded after requesting for my license. However, when I click on the license download to "open" nothing happens. The license link also automatically downloads 1password 5. Could the problem be between 1password 4 and 5?
I wish I could sync via Dropbox, but right now that's not an option since our dropbox acct was compromised and we are trying to clear that up. Is there anyway to sync via iCloud even though I bought 1password thru the agile bits site? I am considering repurchasing the app thru iTunes if it means that it will make syncing seamless. Though I'm afraid to do that and then it makes matter worse or I won't be able to link my current 1password act with he new one. It also disappoints me that I would have to spend more money on a product that I've already purchased.

Hi @JennyG,
Thanks for the additional details! It sounds like you're having trouble adding your license file to 1Password on your Mac. The first thing to do is make sure you're following the steps here: How do I add my license to 1Password?
If you have clicked the "Click here to Apply Your 1Password License" link in the license email but nothing seems to happen, your license file may have already been applied. Please take a look at the steps here to check that: How do I see if 1Password is already licensed?
Now you mentioned you're using 1Password 4 on your Mac, but in your initial post, you indicated your Mac is running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite). In that case, you should be using 1Password 5 instead of version 4 (it's a free upgrade, and both versions use the same license file). Have you tried opening 1Password 5? If so, are you having any trouble getting that set up?
As far as your sync options go, iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That's because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. We have more information about that in these knowledgebase articles:
Why does iCloud require iOS 8, OS X 10.10, and the Mac App Store?
I do not see the option to sync with iCloud in 1Password for Mac
Unfortunately Apple doesn't currently provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. So if you wanted the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you would need to purchase that separately. You said you have some other Apple devices with 1Password, are those Macs or iOS devices? Which version of 1Password are you using on those? How are you currently syncing your 1Password data between those devices?
Even if you can't use iCloud or Dropbox sync, there are some other options. If you use only 1Password on one Mac and one or more iOS devices, you can use Wi-Fi sync. If you need to sync 1Password between multiple Macs, you can use the Folder sync option with another sync service, or even a removable drive (like a USB/flash drive or something similar). If you have multiple Macs and iOS devices, you can use a combination of Wi-Fi sync and Folder sync.
I'm sorry for any confusion about that! If you have more questions or need more help with your license file or setting up one of the sync options, please let us know.

I broke down and paid $49.99 for the iTunes app. Disappointing that I couldn't apply my upgrade discount to it. But the iCloud sync does work very nicely.

Hi @JennyG,
Sadly there isn't a way to apply a selective discount like we can on our own store. It's a shame you were having problems with Dropbox that necessitated such a move but at least you seem to be up and running again.
If you have any further queries or issues do please post!
