New Mac Migration Issue!

I just got a new macbook and had been using 1password 4 flawlessly. This week I got a new computer with Yosemite installed and thus updated my 1Password to the new version 5 for compatibility. However, I'm really struggling to transfer my passwords to my new computer. I was able to get the .agilekeychain file to sync via dropbox, but now i'm getting a failed to unlock message...and my password has not changed.

I love 1Password but this is beyond frustrating...it should be easier than this. I'm i just being an idiot?

1Password Version: 5.3.2
Extension Version: 4.3.1.90
OS Version: OS X 10.10.3
Sync Type: dropbox

    Hi @jbols,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password, that's certainly no fun! Sometimes that message can mean that Dropbox hasn't fully synced your keychain. I know there's been a bit of time between your original post and my response here (and I do apologize for that!) Are you still seeing this message, or did a bit more time allow Dropbox to fully download your data so that 1Password can unlock?

    Megan,
Unfortunately...I'm still seeing this message. About to just go manual and be done...ugh. Thoughts?

    Hi @jbols,

Thanks for getting back to me, I'm sorry it's not with better news!

You mention 'going manual' - do you have your data on another device that we could use to kickstart this new computer?

If not, I think the quickest way to get to a solution here is to take a closer look at your system. I would like you to create the following Diagnostic Report please.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums

The email address you will want to use is support+forum@agilebits.com

When sending the diagnostic report to the address above it would help immensely if you could include a link to this thread and your forum handle so we can connect the two.

Once you've sent the report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. With access to the report we should be able to better assist you

    Megan,
I have this information still on my old computer and on my phone. Can i not use wifi sync?

    Hi @jbols,

Wi-Fi sync won't work between multiple Macs, but If you're using 1Password 4 or 5 on an iPhone, you can use Wi-Fi sync between the iPhone and your new Mac to sync your 1Password data.

However, if you're still planning to use/sync 1Password on your old Mac, the problem is that we don't recommend switching Wi-Fi sync on your iPhone back & forth between multiple Macs. You should be able to do it to get the data to your new Mac this time, but you wouldn't want to keep switching between Macs on a regular basis moving forward. In that case, we'll be happy to continue trying to solve the problem with Dropbox sync.

Out of curiosity, are you currently using Dropbox sync between your old Mac and your iPhone? Or are you using Wi-Fi sync for that?

    Drew,
I'm not planning on switching my sync between multiple computers. Just trying to transfer my current data from one to the other with typing them in manually. To calrify I can use wifi sync from my iPhone 6 to my new mac that uses 1Password 5 to transfer my data initially then turn that sync off. Correct? If yes how can i do this? Do I need to act like a new 1Password user?

To Answer you question...I'm using wifi sync between my old computer and my iphone.

    Hi @jbols,

Thanks, I see what you mean. There are several ways to transfer your 1Password data from one Mac to another, but if you already have that data in 1Password on your iPhone, it's probably easiest to sync it from that iPhone to your new Mac.

To calrify I can use wifi sync from my iPhone 6 to my new mac that uses 1Password 5 to transfer my data initially then turn that sync off. Correct?

Yes, you can definitely use Wi-Fi sync to get the 1Password data from your iPhone to your new Mac. You don't need to disable Wi-Fi sync afterwards (unless you no longer want them to sync with each other).

If yes how can i do this? Do I need to act like a new 1Password user?

Basically, yes. On the "Welcome to 1Password 5!" screen you see when opening 1Password on your Mac (like in your screenshot), click where it says "click here ▾ to select a different option" and choose Create new vault. Create the same master password you use to unlock 1Password on your iPhone. You should end up with an empty Primary vault in 1Password on your Mac.

On your iPhone, you'll need to disable Wi-Fi sync in the 1Password settings (from the 1Password app, go to Settings > Sync > Sync Service > Disable Sync). Then you'll be able to set up Wi-Fi sync between your iPhone and your new Mac by following the steps here: Wi-Fi Sync

Does that help? If you have trouble with that, please let us know - we're here for you! :)
