New user can't set up iCloud sync between OSX App, Watch, iOS app, Chrome extension
Hi. New user here, not in any way a technophobe but really struggling to figure out how to get 1 Password working across all my iOS / Watch / Mac devices.
I discovered 1 Password via the Apple Watch, so I downloaded the iOS app and paid for the premium app. I've figured out how to switch on the Watch setting within the iOS app, and I have the iOS app set up to back up via iCloud. All my account and password etc was originally set up via the iOS app.
Now I have downloaded the latest version of the OSX app and I cannot even see an option to sync to iCloud or to download my passwords from iCloud. Dropbox is mentioned but not iCloud.
I installed the Chrome extension but that made no difference. What I'm trying to do is get all these services talking to one another. But it doesn't seem obvious. I've followed the steps in the support docs I saw but still didn't see anything about how to find my information if it's on iCloud rather than Dropbox.
1Password Version: latest OSX app
Extension Version: latest install
OS Version: latest OSX
Sync Type: iCloud

I would guess that you got the Mac version direct from AgileBits. This does not have iCloud sync, due to restrictions by Apple.
To use iCloud, you have to get the Mac version from Apple's Mac App Store. That's the only technical difference between the two versions. (Again due to Apple's restrictions) the version direct from AgileBits has a free trial, and should there be a paid update can be sold at a discount whereas the full price for a new app has to be charged in the App Store.
You could stay with the direct version and use Dropbox sync, which has some advantages over iCloud. If you are using the trial version, there is of course no issue with buying the App Store version and changing to it. If you've already paid for the direct version, assuming it was within the past thirty days you can get a refund.
The info about iCloud is clearly visible on the purchase page, but is rather hidden if you just download for a trial.

Aha! Thanks for this information. I think you're right. It might help if AgileBits moves this information to a prominent place on its trial download, and also perhaps adds a line of text to the trial download app itself? The result would be positive - more sales of the app probably. Thanks!

Hi @whitemischief,
I'm sorry for any confusion about that! It looks like danco has already explained why you don't see the iCloud sync option, but if you'd like some more information about that, please take a look at this knowledgebase article: I do not see the option to sync with iCloud in 1Password for Mac
The idea to mention something about that on the trial download page has come up before, but the problem is that there's no free trial available for the Mac App Store version of 1Password. If our trial download page pointed people to the Mac App Store for iCloud sync, they would get confused when they can't find a trial version there. However, we do mention this on the AgileBits Store, so people can see that before making a purchase.
Having said that, it might be a good idea to make it clearer in other places, and we appreciate your feedback about that! If you need anything else, please let us know - we're always glad to help. :)

Hi
Could you this information inside the trial APP itself? So that people like me see a greyed-out iCloud option on the app, and a clear message saying "Hey, iCloud sync is possible, but you'll need to download from the App Store, here's the link"

Hi @whitemischief,
Including some sort of indication within the app might be the way to go here, and I can certainly send your suggestion to our developers. One thing to consider is that the free trial is actually the exact same software as the fully activated version (the difference is whether or not the user applies their license file to the app). So with your suggestion, someone who has already paid for the AgileBits Store version might see that message and think they can switch to the Mac App Store version for free, when in fact Apple doesn't have a way for us to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version to the Mac App Store version.
But don't get me wrong, I think you have a fair point and a good suggestion! It's just a matter of figuring out the right way to explain it in the app so that it doesn't create as much confusion as it solves. We really want to prevent the confusion this can cause, and we just need to find the right way to do it. Perhaps your suggestion will help us figure that out! As I said, we really do appreciate the feedback. Thanks! :)

My suggestion would be to include a README file in the zipped file that one downloads.
True, many people won't bother to read that README file, but that's their responsibility, not yours.
One can, of course, and probably should use redundancy and give the info in several places.
