Unable to get 1Password 5 to open properly (Mac Yosemite List of Login item) on new hard disk

Had a major crash on my internal iMAC HD requiring reformat from scratch as the backup partition was also on the same disk. Reformatted I have been unable to have 1Password start properly, (i.e. showing log in list) and transferring all password data to the new vault has not succeeded. All my disks are uptodate with OS X Yosemite. Trying to copy existing files, etc. from my external emergency boot disk has not helped. Where is the Keychain data usually located ? There MUST be a procedure to such transfers...where can I find it ?

Your help will be appreciated...BTW is there a telephone number I can use for reaching your support staff ? Been using 1Password eversince it was introduced. (88 years old still doing some IT on MACS fpr close friends and relatives that are MAC addicts as I am, and contacting software support staff is a last resort on my part.

@Metabetchouan I have moved your post from the 1Password for iOS forum to the 1P for Mac forum where you will get more help. In the meantime you will probably find this knowledge base article helpful:

Where does 1Password store its data?

    Hi @Metabetchouan,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your hard drive! You said you had to reformat it, which also erased the backup partition, so it sounds like you lost the regular backup of your Mac. But you also said you have an "external emergency boot disk". Does that contain a backup of your Mac from before the problem? If so, the link from Stephen's reply should help you find your 1Password data or backup files on that external disk. But if I misunderstood the situation, please let me know.

Alternately, had you been using one of the sync options in 1Password? If so, you should be able to re-sync your 1Password data back to the app using that same sync method. Do you have your 1Password data on any other computers/devices?

Thanks for the comments guys. Been fiddling with what should have been helping but I still have a problem I have not been able to circumvent. 1Password still refuses to show anything and I get the dialog "The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini" and refuses to go further. I'l be darned if I can find a way to rectify. Does anyone know where a "1Password mini" could be located or how to remove it.

    Hi @Metabetchouan,

That error message is actually due to a strange issue in Yosemite which causes it to open the wrong copy of 1Password mini. It can happen when Yosemite finds multiple copies of the 1Password app. The message should show you where both copies are located. Since you've been trying to find your 1Password data on a backup disk, I'm guessing that's where Yosemite is finding the other copy of the app - but make sure you check the location shown in the error to make sure.

If it's finding the other copy on your backup disk, the problem should go away once you disconnect it (you might need to restart your Mac, too). If you normally need to have that backup disk connected, then you can delete the copy of the 1Password app from that disk, so you only have the copy in the regular Applications folder (don't delete any other data from the backup disk, just the app itself).

Does that help? Let us know how it goes, thanks!
