Dear Sirs

As I have no intention of ever using iCloud for anything do I need to update my Mac OS X to 10.10?

Currently I am using OS X 10.6.8 and am using 1Password 3.8.22 and am using an iPhone 5 and am looking at updating to IOS 8 from IOS 6. Do I need to update to OS X 10.10?

I will only use Wi-Fi Synch to synch my iPhones and Macs.

I look forward to your reply.

All the best

Bill Gouge

    Hi @bill_gouge,

I run 1Password 5 on Yosemite and I only use Wi-Fi Sync for my personal vault as does Stephen_C, one of our community moderators. Upgrading certainly wouldn't force you to use any form of cloud service any more than you would have to now. In fact even though I am logged into iCloud the only service I have enabled is Find My Mac - everything else is disabled.

What should be more of a concern is that Snow Leopard is no longer maintained by Apple. That means no more security fixes for any bugs in OS X or Safari. I personally would feel uncomfortable using such a machine online given all the nasty rubbish out there and how much harder it is to avoid it in contrast to years gone by.

While 1Password 3 does mostly work on Yosemite there are certain features which are broken due to obsolete libraries that have been removed from OS X. If you were going to take the plunge I'd provably recommend Yosemite on your Mac, iOS 8 on your iOS device(s) and upgrading to 1Password 5. You don't have to, some people still run 1Password 3 and that 1Password 3 licence doesn't expire while running 1Password 5 does require an upgrade licence (your 1Password 3 licence key won't work I'm afraid). If you purchase via our AgileBits Store there is an Upgrade Licence button, you supply your 1Password 3 licence key and then you can obtain 1Password 5 at a discounted price.

You'll probably have plenty of other questions first though so please do ask
