1Password vs PasswordWallet
I was curious since 1Password came included in a bundle I bought, so have been trying it the past few weeks.
The staff here are amazing, friendly, helpful and quick and thorough in their responses. I've enjoyed trying the software.
But in the end I have to say I find PasswordWallet easier to use for any site with:
- Two page login.
- Redirects to different URLs.
- Anything out-of-the-ordinary (such as multiple fields on the login page).
- Dealing with site URL changes.
In my experience, PasswordWallet "just works" all the time. Especially if you take advantage of their special characters, such as auto-pause.
1Password has two advantages though in addition to visually "looking cooler" -
The "browser extensions" which let you avoid opening up the 1Password app directly. That's convenient.
1Password synchronization between the Mac and iPhone versions via Dropbox work better than the similar synchronization in PasswordWallet.
In 1Password the synchronization just works, and seems to be instantaneous, and I don't have to fiddle with a synchronization wizard, or see Dropbox constantly sending notices about "conflicted copy removed" or wait for a delay in syncing. With PasswordWallet the synchronization is always "weird" and I have to end up manually doing a new sync. I'm not sure why.
But PasswordWallet in general "just works" better than 1Password on the many sites I use with non-standard kinds of logins. The concept is different I know. 1Password tries to match URLs and field names in the DOM. While PasswordWallet lets the user decide when to populate the fields via their popup, regardless of URL redirects, and so on.
So even if a site changes their URL or domain (like one of my banks did recently) PW continues to "just work" while 1Password doesn't recognize the page anymore and I have to do a lot of fiddling to create a new login.
So for now I think I will stick with PasswordWallet because, after all, the bottom line is being able to easily login. I might return to 1Password at some future time though, and I appreciate all the helpful hints and suggestions.
Thanks,
doug

I agree with @Megan: thank you for providing this feedback. It is very valuable to us and greatly appreciated!
One thing you wrote did give me pause:
So even if a site changes their URL or domain (like one of my banks did recently) PW continues to "just work" while 1Password doesn't recognize the page anymore and I have to do a lot of fiddling to create a new login.
If that is true, it would actually be a security flaw. 1Password protects you from phishing attacks by only filling on the domain that matches what is in the Login item.
You may be interested to read more about how 1Password protects you from phishing attacks (including why 1Password doesn't automatically fill Logins when the page loads):
Why doesn’t 1Password automatically fill forms when the page loads?
I understand that there are other factors at play, so I don't expect that to persuade you to change your mind. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this aspect of 1Password.
Best wishes.

Thanks for your reply. I am careful about that sort of thing. In the case I was thinking of my bank recently changed it's name from First National Bank St. Louis to Central Bank of St. Louis. So if you connect to First National Bank the domain shows up as Central Bank now. But I haven't had to change my email, or Bill Pay, or URLs or anything because they honor both. Also, in some cases you get redirected around within the same domain when logging in which does seem to cause problems with 1Password.
But I do understand the point you are making.

@douglerner: I'm glad that helped! :) :+1:
One other thing I'll mention is that using multiple URLs for a login item in 1Password is a great way to streamline logins which are used across multiple sites. Again, you'll need to explicitly add them to the 1Password item, but that way 1Password will offer you that login at each of the URLs it has stored...which makes it not only more secure, but also more convenient.
Ultimately if the login forms themselves are significantly different (either across the multiple URLs for the login, or on different pages on a single website), 1Password may have trouble filling them. Especially when it comes to financial sites, I think it's best to fail at filling rather than fill incorrectly. But as you do run across specific pages where 1Password seems to struggle or fail completely, be sure to report it using your Synapse website issue tracker so we can work to improve 1Password for you and the rest of our awesome customers going forward. Cheers! :)

Thanks. I did report one bank where I'm having trouble logging in in the thread dealing with that. I believe the AgileBits staff person was able to reproduce at least part of my problem (the password getting padded with extra characters).
Thanks,

@douglerner: Excellent! Thank you! I'm sorry that you're not getting the results you need right now, but we'll do what we can to improve this going forward. :)
