my wife has a macbook air where 1password is installed. I (husband) just got a new macbookpro and I want to access 1password on her machine.
Your knowledgebase said to use dropbox. Do both of our computers need dropbox? I assume I can then share her license for 1Password.

    Hi,

    • First you'll need to download 1Password for Mac from the same store your wife's copy was purchased.

    • You can both use the same 1Password vault for your passwords, if you like, and yes you can use Dropbox to sync that 1Password vault between your computers using a single Dropbox account. You mentioned having already read the knowledgebase but here's the article for setting up Dropbox. (Sync with Dropbox) in case you need it.

    • My recommendation as far as steps are this:

      1. Setup Dropbox in your wife's copy of 1Password first since that vault already has data in it.
      2. Sync her existing vault to Dropbox.
      3. Install 1Password on your MBPro and setup 1Password as an existing user selecting Dropbox as the location of your data.
    • Note - the vault you are sharing is only as current as the last time either of you synced your individual copies of 1Password with Dropbox.

    Hi @dkananen,

Everything JWeaver has said is correct but I'd like to expand a little on a couple of points.

If your wife purchased our AgileBits Store version then she will have received an email from us that contained instructions on how to obtain her licence file - the bit that tells the 1Password application that you're a registered customer. Our licence covers your wife and five other family members in the same household so you're definitely covered and all you need to do is apply the licence to your copy.

If your wife purchase the Mac App Store version of 1Password then the 'licence' is tied to her Apple ID. If you share an Apple ID you simply download 1Password for Mac from the Purchases tab in the App Store application on your Mac. If you have separate Apple IDs then you can share the purchase using Apple's Family Sharing where you connect your two Apple IDs.

Dropbox is the easiest way to share a single vault. It can be done using either a single shared Dropbox account or you can share folders between Dropbox accounts. If you both only want a single primary vault between you and you both use the same Apple ID then you could also use iCloud Sync (available only in the Mac App Store version).

So no matter what you will be able to share both her licence and a vault. The exact route will partly depend on any requirements you have and where your wife purchased 1Password. If you have any questions please do ask
